General Description of Position:

The Security and Loss Prevention Specialist plays a vital role in enhancing the customer experience by fostering a positive and welcoming environment. This position focuses on greeting customers as they enter and exit the store, utilizing soft skills to create a friendly and approachable presence.

Beyond serving as a welcoming face, the Specialist acts as a visual deterrent to potential theft or dishonesty and provides support with loss prevention and security concerns when needed. Building strong relationships with both customers and staff is central to this role, ensuring a balanced approach to safeguarding people, assets, and the store’s overall environment.

The Specialist is expected to embody these principles by adhering to company policies, promoting a positive and inclusive workplace culture, and contributing to a cohesive team dynamic that enhances the customer experience.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers warmly, demonstrating courtesy, respect, and a commitment to creating a positive shopping experience.
  • Maintain a professional, friendly, and attentive presence in the designated area, typically at the front of the store.
  • Be a positive and supportive part of the team, fostering collaboration and camaraderie.
  • Use effective written and verbal communication skills and leverage established communication systems to their fullest.
  • Assist with calls throughout the store, ensuring timely and helpful responses.
  • Respond to customer inquiries by directing them to the appropriate department, store management, or associates.
  • Serve as a visible deterrent to potential theft or dishonest behavior while maintaining a friendly demeanor.
  • Actively prevent theft of unpaid items through verbal communication and engagement.
  • Familiarize yourself with and understand the Store Emergency Response policy to effectively handle incidents.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
  • Wear the full, company-approved uniform at all times to maintain a professional appearance.
  • Observe and promptly report any suspicious behavior or critical incidents to store management.
  • Coordinate with first responders, Central Eastside, and community partners to address situations involving unwanted customers on the premises, ensuring they are either removed or provided with appropriate assistance.
  • Conduct a closing safety sweep of the store in coordination with a member of the management team.
  • Accurately document incidents and generate detailed reports as required, following company protocols.
  • Visit other locations as needed to provide support and maintain consistency in safety and loss prevention practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management to support store operations and safety.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  • Genuine interest in pursuing a career in retail Loss Prevention.
  • Professional, courteous, and composed demeanor, even under pressure.
  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and observational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear and professional interactions.
  • Familiarity with local and state laws relevant to retail security and loss prevention.
  • Ability to work independently with a proactive and resourceful approach.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • DPSST Certified
  • Proficiency using MS Office, Digital Cameras, and CCTV operations
  • Preference will be given to applicants with at least three (3) years of loss prevention experience, but all applications are welcome.
  • Applicants must be available for weekends, after hours, and occasional out of town and overnight work.
