Custodian II
City of St. Petersburg
This is full-time, routine work in cleaning, sanitizing, operating a small motor vehicle, lifting and using related power and hand tools and equipment, and performing other assigned tasks in and around Library buildings and facilities. Work is usually scheduled during the late shift from 7:00 p.m. until 3:30 a.m. and will involve weekends based on a rotating shift schedule. Work may include scheduling and monitoring the work of assigned subordinates and may also include monitoring and inspection of work performed by contract workers from outside agencies.
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Possess and continue to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License.
- Have verifiable employment of at least six months performing janitorial, custodial, or closely related activities in a commercial environment and must reflect this verifiable experience on their initial application.
- Be able to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions in English.
- Be detail oriented.
- Be able to work the required night and weekend shifts.
- Be able to plan and organize routine work details which may include coordinating tasks performed by other semi-skilled staff, as assigned.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have considerable progressive experience in janitorial or related custodial work.
- Have considerable knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment, and procedures.
- Are able to instruct and train employees in cleaning and related activities.
- Are able to maintain physical strength and agility sufficient to perform routine manual cleaning tasks.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997.

At this point, any prior criminal records will be verified. A prior criminal record will not necessarily disqualify a selected applicant from employment.
