Summer School Teacher - High School

Professional Days and Orientation: July 1, 2, and 3 (3rd is ½ day only)
Program Dates: July 7, 2025-August 1, 2025
Location: Washington-Liberty HS
Model: IN-PERSON
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize and implement appropriate instruction in the areas of motor skills, language, self-help skills, and personal independence
- Adapt instruction, assignments and curriculum depending on the needs of the students
- Collect data on student critical life skill goals
- Provide accommodations and modifications for students as needed
- Work collaboratively with school staff, student services staff, and families
- Plan and organize activities to be carried out by an assistant if assigned
Experience:
- Teaching students with autism spectrum disorders
- Working with a variety of ability /grade levels (classes are multi-graded)
Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid license (or provisional license) in special education
- Knowledge of best practices and experience teaching students with autism spectrum disorders
- Knowledge of the academic, social, and emotional needs of students with autism spectrum disorders

Salary:
Summer School Teachers who are APS employees during the year will be paid their hourly rate or $36.68 per hour, whichever is higher. (Please note Salary earned relative to summer school employment will not be included in the employee’s creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).) Retired APS teachers will be paid $49.29 per hour per APS pay plan. Non-APS licensed summer school teachers will be paid $36.68 per hour.
