The Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association (MSA) is seeking a Director of Training (DT) to provide support and oversight in the development and deployment of standardized training across the fourteen member agencies of the MSA Education and Training Committee (ETC), under the direction of the Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and direct agency training divisions, both individually and collectively, in the delivery of approved course content for the Correctional Officer and Deputy Sheriffs’ Training Academy.
  • Create a comprehensive digital ecosystem for the MSA by ensuring conformance with data recording procedures within the Acadis public safety training and compliance software system or other digital platforms as identified and designated by the MSA. The DT shall deliver such support through a combination of individualized agency site visits and small and large group virtual engagement.
  • Coordinate with the Training Platform Vendor (Acadis) to ensure agency support for product updates and to assist the resolution of technical/data complications.
  • Assist in the development of standardized and enhanced training curriculum, program goals, initiatives, and best practices, ensuring adherence to and compliance with applicable Federal, State and Local laws, MSA ETC requirements, certification-based mandates and standards, and departmental and county policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Support the procurement of training and development services from vendors including price considerations, contract review, and curriculum content analysis.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships and alliances with relevant County and State agencies and partners to ensure programs align with applicable standards and methods of training and education programming and appropriate resources.
  • Attend MSA Executive Training Committee meetings to share information and provide instruction relevant to the successful implementation of training directives from the Massachusetts Sheriffs.
  • Attend MSA meetings to advise and inform the Massachusetts Sheriffs.
  • Increase state, federal, local and community agency partnerships to deliver state of the art training.
  • Track trends and make recommendations regarding training technology and curriculum.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Executive or Deputy Director.

The position will be a hybrid of MSA Office (44 School Street, Boston), remote and travel to the various Sheriff’s Offices along with attending monthly MSA Sheriffs’ Meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in public or business administration, law, criminal justice, education, or another relevant field.
  • Prior experience as a senior manager in a law enforcement organization or education/training/certification organization.
  • Prior experience developing and/or delivering training and education programs to law enforcement officers.
  • Prior experience evaluating the effectiveness of training and education programs.
  • Substantive knowledge and experience with the criminal justice system and corrections in Massachusetts.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Commitment to expanding, supporting, and retaining a diverse workforce.
