The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities.

We are looking for a part-time Teen Supervisor who will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all services within the PAL Teen Center. Under the direction of the Center Director, plan, organize, and manage services, staff, and volunteers. Perform administrative duties that support and facilitate all the day-to-day Teen programs functions.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Model and uphold all agency policy & procedures.
  • Attend and participate in pre- and midseason training sessions.
  • Open and close the site daily, on-time; dress in PAL-provided and approved attire (Appropriate pants/sweats and athletic footwear).
  • Welcome and register youth to the site; supervise the work of Activity Specialists and Front Desk clerk who facilitate and share activities with youth.
  • Keep order on-site, monitor and recognize daily attendance trends.
  • Submit Accident/Incident reports to the Center Director within the day of the occurrences.
  • Coordinate and assist in teaching youngsters PAL approved rules and regulations for tournament gameplay; counsel youth in the areas of life skills, drug prevention, conflict resolution as needed and reinforce the importance of good sportsmanship.
  • Act as a mandated child abuse reporter, recognizing the signs of physical, emotional and sexual abuse; report incidents/suspicions to Center Director and the office of the Department of Teen Programming.
  • Engage and develop working relationships with the school administration, parents and community stakeholders, representing the program and PAL in a professional manner.
  • Inform youth and parents of site policies and procedures and share the sites daily and special event schedules.
  • Maintain all paperwork: registration materials, attendance logs, and activity attendance forms.
  • Encourage staff and teens to actively participate in all program activities; ensure that they receive respect and recognition. Support teenagers with advice; informing them that guidance is available from staff concerning problems, onsite or offsite.
  • In conjunction with the Center Director, develop daily action plans and program schedules to ensure objectives are met at the site.
  • In conjunction with the Center Director, Activity Specialist, and Front Desk Clerk, plan and coordinate various citywide programs, activities, and special events as indicated in PAL's program calendar.
  • Ensure all staff properly displays their PAL staff photo identification card.
  • Ensure the site's programs and activities are delivered in a manner that is consistent with PAL's mission and philosophical approach towards programming.
  • In conjunction with Center Director and site staff, plan and coordinate marketing efforts that serve to promote PAL.
  • Ensure all sites are clean and safe of any potential hazards and that the program space is conducive to youth development.
  • In coordination with the Center Director, distribute, explain, and facilitate specialized monthly workshops.
  • Communicate with the Center Director and the Department of Teen Programming office as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • File incident reports (accidents, injuries, altercations, etc.) no later than the day of the incident.
  • Submit weekly attendance reports and ensure that youth and site staff attendance logs are signed and well kept.
  • Maintain a program bulletin board announcing hours of operation, staff on-site, emergency phone numbers, current and upcoming events, workshops and activities, and clearly and properly display all PAL banners and signage.
  • Ensure Activity Specialists clock-in and out daily through the ADP time clock system.
  • Engage and interact with parents. Encourage open lines of communication to enable better youth behavior management.

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • A minimum of sixty credits towards a degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, psychology, sociology, education, counseling, or related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of work experience in a non-profit youth or social service agency is required.
  • Demonstrated skills and competency in youth service and recreation.
  • Understanding of conflict resolution, mediation, and mentoring concepts.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to speak professionally to staff members, parents, school administrators, and community stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with administrative protocols involving dress, demeanor, record keeping, reporting, confidentiality, visitors, use of supplies and equipment and cell phone.

Salary: $25.00 Per Hour
