Who we are: The Police Athletic League (PAL) of New York City is an independent youth development nonprofit organization and has been a vibrant and vital institution, serving as an effective, critical bridge between police and communities across all five boroughs of the City since 1914. PAL operates diverse programs for children as young as 2 years old to young adults, including Head Start, after-school programs, summer day camps, evening teen centers, and college readiness programs, aiming to empower communities and provide competitive and recreational sports.
Position Summary: We are looking for a part-time Administrative Assistant who will handle overall administration of the Center, including monthly reports, personnel records, general office files, membership registration, attendance documentation, and other duties as assigned by the Center Director.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative oversight, direction, training, and support to staff, volunteers, and interns for the effective administration of the Center.
- Establish and maintain systems to manage employee records and files; conduct new employee orientations; oversee sick, vacation, personal leave and lateness documentation.
- Establish and maintain systems to monitor and manage member registration and attendance records.
- Generate and maintain management information systems that support effective program administration.
- Oversee professional phone use and provide technical assistance to staff as necessary.
- Order, manage, and maintain office supplies and equipment.
- Receive and disseminate correspondence with attention to PAL Headquarters and government and financial documents.
- Respond to requests from PAL Headquarters with approval from the Center Director.
Education & Experience:
- At least sixty credits towards a degree in administration and/or human resources from an accredited college or university.
- Five years professional experience in a non-profit youth or social service agency in an administrative or managerial capacity.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
- Skills in program and human resource administration and ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Problem-solving ability for information management challenges.
- Professional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Publisher, and Excel.
- Compliance with office protocols involving dress, demeanor, record keeping, confidentiality, and use of supplies and equipment.
Compensation: $19.00 Per Hour
Location: PS 78 Police Athletic League, Inc.
Hours: Monday-Friday 12:00PM-6:00PM
Start Date: 12/2/2024
