This position is responsible for supervisory and participatory work in the execution of health and wellness programs under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Department, Healthy St. Pete division. Employees in this position will create, supervise, and participate in the planning and implementation of departmental programs, events, and activities focused on improving community and/or employee health and examine public and employee health data, policies, industry best practices, and resources to offer evidence-based programs. Employees in this position are expected to be able to perform all work tasks and comply with any work schedules, attendance, or duty requirements which may be established by City or department rules. Work is subject to review by a coordinator through the analysis of operating records, inspections, periodic conferences, and the reaction of the participating public.

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a valid Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in public or community health, health or exercise science, health or physical education, public administration, recreation, human services, or a related field.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Have some supervisory experience.
  • Possess the presentation and communication skills necessary to lead, educate, and collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Be highly proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Successfully meet the State of Florida good moral character and Level II background screening standards (Florida State Statutes 435.01-435.06).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Have at least two years of progressive experience in program development or community engagement.
  • Have considerable knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of city planning, health program development and the methodology and techniques to implement such programs.
  • Have considerable knowledge of the methods, facilities, equipment, and personnel involved in organizing, conducting, and supervising a program that includes a wide variety of public health, community engagement, and recreational activities.
  • Have a basic understanding of statistical concepts and research methodology used in data collection and report presentation.
  • Have some knowledge of related computer programs, including Oracle E-Business Suite, ActiveNet Registration, and Kronos.
  • Have some prior experience with public speaking and making presentations.
