Summary:

The Supervisor Accounts Payable reports to the Manager Accounts Payable. Under general supervision and within Brown University Health policies and procedures, assists in the management of the Brown University Health Accounts Payable information system including the entry and verification of data for the Accounts Payable system. Aids in the development of departmental procedures and protocols in the design and implementation of new systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides guidance and counsel to subordinate staff; provides input on annual performance evaluations; recommends personnel actions; acts as a resource for subordinate staff; provides and maintains subordinate staff development plans; develops standards for subordinate staff performance.
  • Organizes workloads of subordinate staff to ensure that deadlines are met; schedules work assignments; evaluates performance of subordinate staff making recommendations that allow employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Participates in the development of educational and training programs. Assists with providing training to staff and other employees on system procedures.
  • Writes queries, analyzes data, participates in the development and establishment of system standards and procedures, and oversees and enforces internal procedures and control standards where applicable. Ensures adherence to established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives related to the system. Participates in identification and resolution of system issues.
  • Responsible for on-boarding EDI vendors. Manages relationships with EDI vendors as well as Brown University Health's healthcare data exchange vendor.
  • Responsible for maintaining Brown University Health's E-payables system with Bank of America.
  • Participates in implementation of system enhancements and upgrades; also serves on integration teams for ongoing analysis of system improvements. Conducts system testing, performs analysis, and verifies data.
  • Recommends and participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Participates in review of department performance.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge relevant to state-of-the-art technology and systems.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Basic Knowledge

  • Equivalent to an Associates Degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent combination of formal education, training, and experience.

Experience

  • Three years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Previous experience with information systems and accounts payable preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge of standard accounts payable procedures and regulations.
  • Proficient with various PC applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to create complex queries and manage data.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft Accounts Payable system preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a typical office environment.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Supervises up to 10 FTEs.
