Summary:
The Accountant Lead is responsible for preparing general ledger month-end journal entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, reviewing journal entries as assigned, and financial statement analysis relevant to their assigned functional accounting team.

This role requires a strong understanding of United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP). The Lead Accountant should demonstrate an understanding of the purpose of the journal entries they are recording to the general ledger, evaluate the appropriateness of the entry, and explain its impact on the financial statements. They typically handle higher risk and more complex areas within the functional accounting team, ensuring appropriate and relevant supporting documentation is attached to the journal entry.
The Lead Accountant collaborates with the Accounting Manager in supervising and training accountants on the assigned functional team, reviewing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations. They are expected to provide documented feedback on the work of the accountants to be included in their performance evaluations.
The position requires assisting the Accounting Manager in meeting month-end close deadlines and looking for process efficiencies. The Lead Accountant will participate in financial review calls with regional CFOs and is responsible for analyzing variances and preparing materials for these calls.
The job encompasses working with financial data in various Infor CloudSuite modules relevant to their functional area and assisting other teams with information requests related to the assigned area.
Responsibilities:
- Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Prepare month-end journal entries in accordance with US GAAP, with complete and accurate supporting documentation.
- Independent analysis of applicable accounting guidance to ensure compliance with US GAAP.
- Perform variance analysis on assigned accounts against budget and trend.
- Prepare month-end balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by accountants, ensuring appropriateness and documentation.
- Assist Manager with onboarding and training accountants.
- Drive process improvements for team efficiency.
- Maintain strong relationships with other teams across the System.
- Support Senior Management and Corporate Associates with data requests and analyses.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent required.
- 7 years of accounting experience required.
- General ledger accounting experience; healthcare accounting experience preferred.
- Candidates seeking CPA license preferred; some assistance available.
