Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and flexible individual to join our team as a Hospital Mail Delivery Clerk. In this role, you will be responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of internal mail, documents, and packages throughout the hospital campus and associated locations. Depending on staffing needs, you may also be required to drive a cargo van to assist with mail deliveries to off-site locations or across different hospital campuses. Your role is critical in ensuring smooth operations and communication within our healthcare environment.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of hospital layout or prior experience working in a healthcare setting.
- Previous experience driving a cargo van or similar vehicle.
- Ability to use hospital mail management systems or basic digital tools.
Work Environment
- Work is performed both on foot within the hospital, walking between different departments, floors, and units, as well as in a cargo van for off-site or cross-campus deliveries.
- Potential exposure to hospital environments, including patient care areas, common areas, and offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Mail Delivery: Transport and deliver daily mail, packages, inter-office communications, and documents to designated departments, offices, and patient care areas within the hospital on foot or by cargo van.
- Route Flexibility: Fill in on different delivery routes across the hospital or other facilities as needed, adjusting to varying schedules and locations.
- Driving Duties: Operate a cargo van to deliver mail and packages to off-site locations or across multiple hospital campuses, ensuring safe and timely delivery.
- Sorting and Organizing: Sort and organize incoming and outgoing mail, ensuring all items are delivered accurately and on time.
- Coordination with Staff: Communicate effectively with hospital staff to confirm delivery locations, ensure proper handling of sensitive materials, and address any special delivery needs.
- Maintenance of Delivery Routes: Follow established delivery routes for both on-foot and van-based deliveries, adjusting as needed for efficiency and time management.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, particularly when navigating busy hallways, elevators, patient care areas, or while driving a cargo van.
- Confidentiality: Handle all mail, packages, and documents with the utmost confidentiality, ensuring compliance with hospital privacy regulations and HIPAA requirements.
- Assisting with Special Deliveries: Occasionally assist with delivering urgent items or special requests from hospital departments.
Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience in a mail delivery, customer service, or similar role is a plus, but not required.
- Valid Driver’s License: Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record to operate a cargo van for deliveries.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to walk long distances, lift light packages (up to 25 lbs), and drive for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate delivery of all mail and packages.
- Communication Skills: Good verbal communication skills to coordinate with hospital staff and manage any delivery-related issues.
- Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively and meet delivery deadlines across multiple locations.
- Professionalism: Professional demeanor and the ability to maintain a respectful attitude in a healthcare environment.
- Background Check: Must be able to pass a background check and adhere to hospital security and confidentiality guidelines.
