Summary:
- Under supervision, supports the department through scheduling, reception, records maintenance, coordination with other hospital clinics and services, and general assistance.
- Rehabilitation Support Specialist I employees perform work under close supervision, and generally require instruction and/or training.
- Rehabilitation Support Specialist II employees perform work under minimal supervision at a higher level and may be assigned to train Rehabilitation Support Specialist I employees.
- Rehabilitation Support Specialist III work under minimal supervision and are often considered a lead to the rehabilitation support specialist I and II and may be assigned to train Rehabilitation Support Specialist I & II employees.
Responsibilities:
All levels:
- Work under the direction of department leadership.
- Patient Care Coordination.
- Ensures all charts and medical records are available for scheduled appointments or as requested.
- Coordinates patient referrals and ensures appropriate follow-up after provider sees patient.
- Assists with routine referrals per standard protocol, to include scheduling diagnostic studies, clinic appointments, telemedicine visits, field clinics, and verifies THO orders have been sent and scheduled.
- Assists Rehabilitation staff with check-ins.
- Verifies new orders are sent.
- Utilizes tracking systems for patients in electronic health record and scheduling systems to maintain an appropriate database of patients requiring follow-up.
- Insurance Verification.
- Confirms patient insurance eligibility.
- Updates insurance changes or any changes affecting third party billing in electronic health record.
- Clerical Duties.
- Provides prompt response to phone calls/messages, mail, faxes, or patient portal messages.
- Assists in maintaining a variety of files, logs and registers.
- May maintain fax log for department.
- Obtains medical reports or health information from other facilities or providers.
- Communicates with other ANMC departments and/or Tribal Health Organizations (THOs) to coordinate with other departments or THOs as needed.
- Performs routine and complex referrals in conjunction with medical providers, schedules diagnostic studies, clinic appointments.
- Screens each referral for previous visits and eligibility status before determining appointment type and tests needed prior to visit.
- Schedules same day appointments and ensures all information pertaining to visit is available.
- May assist the department leadership in developing and maintaining Cerner and field schedules.
- May order office supplies.
- Adheres to organization and department attendance guidelines.
- Technician Duties. (All levels)
- Turn over treatment rooms as needed.
- Supply treatment rooms as needed.
- Wipe down training equipment as needed.
- Midday and evening cleaning of all hard surface areas and equipment in the gym.
- Wipe down all hard surface areas daily in the gym and waiting room.
Rehabilitation Support Specialists III:
- Acts as training resource, mentor, and professional role model Rehabilitation Support Specialists.
- Work with department leadership to provide input on process improvement opportunities and support implementing change process.
- May help order supplies for the department. (office and equipment)
- May assist department leadership in performing audits as needed.
- May Act as a backup for timekeeper.
- May serve as a lead for Rehabilitation Support Specialists Team.
- All levels perform other duties as assigned.

Rehabilitation Support Specialists II & III:
- Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native culture(s) and organizations.
- Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meeting deadlines.
- Skill in supervisory communication and management.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION:
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION:
- Rehabilitation Support Specialists I: Non-Supervisory – A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Rehabilitation Support Specialists II: Non-Supervisory – A Minimum of 1 year of Rehabilitation Support Specialist experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
- Rehabilitation Support Specialists III: Non-Supervisory - A Minimum of 2 years of Rehabilitation Support Specialist experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
