Job Summary:
Follow established policies and procedures to perform a variety of routine technical and clerical support tasks that are integral to the operation of the pharmacy department. Tasks include, but are not limited to, preparation and distribution of unit dose medications, sterile & non-sterile preparation, and stock orders. Responsible for the preparation and delivery of pharmaceutical supplies and medications in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and other regulatory agencies as applicable.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Restocks floor stock/automated dispensing machines. Enters charges/credits against patient profile to ensure an accurate bill.
- Monitors medication order reports to assign medication to an automated dispensing machine. Delivers all medication in compliance with all DEA, DPH & State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- Prepares and delivers IV medications in accordance with Federal USP797 & USP 800 standards. Maintains records pertaining to IV admixtures, maintains cleanliness in sterile areas, and completes QA.
- Repackages bulk supplies of medications in unit of use packaging in accordance with all Federal USP 795 & USP 800 standards.
- Checks for expired medications within the pharmacy & automated dispensing cabinets. Ensures that all expired/damaged medications are disposed of in accordance with RCRA, OSHA & NIOSH regulations.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- License Mass Registered Pharmacy Tech required, or Registration Pharmacy Technician Trainee required, and Certificate 1 EXCPT required, or Certificate 2 Pharm Tech Cert Board required, and CPhT for EXCPT or PTCB is required within 60 days of hire.
- 0-1 years related work experience required.
- Pharmacy Technicians must be licensed with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy and certified through PTCB or EXCPT. Pharmacy Technicians in Training must become licensed with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy and become certified through PTCB or EXCPT within 60 days of hire.
- Employee must remain in good standing with the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Pharmacy including maintenance of registration and fees.
- Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three to six months as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital or retail setting.
- Ability to perform simple and complex pharmaceutical calculations. Develops familiarity with medications: their generic and trade names, methods of administration, and conversion between metric and apothecary systems.

- Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers professionally and respectfully.
Physical Nature of the Job:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.
