Responsibilities
- Wet and dry mop entire area, moving all obstacles to ensure cleaning complete surface. Utilize janitorial buckets weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Dust all horizontal and vertical surface from ceiling to floor are dusted and/or polished.
- Vacuum carpet ensuring all necessary obstacles have been moved to clean complete surface.
- Collect and dispose of trash from containers ranging from 1 to 30 gallons.
- Clean and disinfect all areas in the restrooms including but not limited to sinks, floors, toilets, urinals, mirror, fixtures, and bathtubs.
- Check and replace when depleted and/or according to policy, toilet paper, hand soap, paper toweling, trash bags and all other necessary supplies. Strive for optimal use of supplies, materials, keeping in mind cost and budget limitations.
- Keep equipment clean and orderly. Replace and store all equipment such as mops buckets, dust cloths, vacuum bags. Reports to supervisor regarding any equipment malfunction and worn items.
- Maintain appropriate cleaning supplies on care and be responsible for maneuvering janitorial carts, weighing up to 100 pounds, throughout facility.
- Be responsible for cleaning rooms including washing cabinets, inside of drawers, mirrors, bed frames/mattress, and any fixtures on the walls. Report to Supervisor if drapes and cubicle curtains need washed/repaired.
- Follow all safety, security, exposure control and hazardous waste policies and procedures including fire and electrical safety, emergency drills, proper body mechanics, protective clothing/equipment, and use of hazardous chemical and waste.
- Observe dress and conduct codes, including wearing identification badge.
- Communicate in a respectful and effective manner with staff, Residents and visitors during conversations, meetings and at times of apparent disagreement. Verbal and nonverbal communication may not be interpreted as manipulative, discourteous or abusive. Staff will be responsible for announcing their presence prior to entering occupied rooms/offices.
- Actively participate in or initiate problem solving in job related issues. Work positively with co-workers in times of shortage and with special projects. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Work effectively and cooperatively with all departments or other disciplines.
- Keep confidential of all Resident, departmental and organizational information, and assure that the Resident rights are maintained reporting issues of concern to supervisor.
Physical Requirements
- Stand 85% to 100% of typical work shift
- Lift/carry objects more than 20lbs, and push/pull carts and occupied wheelchairs more than 200lbs
- Walk, bend, twist, stretch, lift, be on one’s feet for extended periods of time
- Remember simple and multiple tasks and assignments related to job responsibilities without frequent reminders
- Learn and utilize educational in-service information
- Have adequate hearing to hear within the range of raised voices, receive verbal instructions, and answer phone calls
- Communicate effectively in English with Residents and others
- Deal effectively with stress created by Residents' illnesses, disabilities and the aging process, organizational change, and working cooperatively as part of the health care team
- Perform simple motor skills such as standing, walking, sitting, etc. Able to perform difficult manipulative skills such as, equipment calibration, etc.
