Job Description
POSITION TITLE: CareGiver
SUPERVISOR’S TITLE: Assisted Living/Inspirations Director
STATUS: Hourly / Non-exempt
Summary
Perform various resident care activities and related nonprofessional services essential to caring for personal needs and comfort of residents.
Essential Functions, Duties And Responsiblities
The essential duties and responsibilities described below are representative of those a team member encounters while performing the basic functions of the position. Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
First Aid and CPR certification with annual recertification through an outside services qualified trailer.
Experience:
Once year experience working in assisted living or with seniors preferred.
Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Skills:
Ability to learn and work with specific needs of those residents suffering from dementia.
Oral/Written
Communication Skills
Strong interpersonal, teamwork skills. Ability to routinely process written information as in policies and procedures, posted notices, instruction materials. Complete forms and other written documentation. Observe resident actions, gestures, facial expressions.
Equipment Used:
Washer/dryer, general office equipment.
Physical Effort:
Must be mobile. Must be in good health and physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks.
Personal Characteristics:
Possesses good character and displays high degree of personal integrity. Displays sincere compassion towards cognitively impaired older adults. Demonstrates genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of older people and their families.
Working Conditions:
Well-lighted, air-conditioned health care environment. Subject to hazards from hazardous waste and other environmental conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

- Assist all residents with a high quality of personal care, including but not limited to; bathing, dressing, grooming, shaving, continence care, foot care, vital signs, height and weight checks per policy.
- Make all beds as needed in A.M., turn down as needed in P.M., strip beds once each week or PRN.
- Do all personal laundry on resident’s first scheduled shower day.
- Do all linens per shift (where applicable).
- Assist residents with meal time. Cut food. Encourage to eat. Feed when needed.
- Utilize on an ongoing basis, all aspects of special programs offered by the community.
- Maintain calm atmosphere at all times.
- Follow through with all assignments on a timely basis in accordance to chain of command when Assisted Living/Inspirations Director is not on duty.
- Report to Assisted Living/Inspirations Director all unusual behavior of resident (changing of status).
- Check communication logs and any other pertinent information regarding needs, team member programming, etc.
- Provide activities as planned and/or directed.
- Document resident status as per policy.
- Respond to all emergency calls and emergencies in a timely manner.
- Provide emergency care within scope of practice.
- Be familiar with and enforce as appropriate all community policies.
- The community embraces a culture of hospitality. To that end, all team members are expected as a condition of employment to practice excellent customer service in all interactions with residents, fellow team members, and guests.
- Follow Residents’ Rights policies at all times.
- Observe all community policies and procedures.
- Accept assigned duties, instructions or correction in a cooperative manner, voicing concerns or disagreement in a professional manner through established chain of authority according to state procedures.
- Perform incidental housekeeping and maintenance tasks as may arise during the course of regular duties, in order to maintain a clean, safe, pleasant environment for residents, visitors and team members.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned in an effective, timely, and professional manner.
