Virginia Beach Human Services is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with Mental Health Nursing experience to join our Assertive Community Treatment Program (ACT). In this role, you will work with adults experiencing substance use disorder (SUD), serious mental illness (SMI), and co-occurring conditions, contributing to their recovery and well-being.
Responsibilities:
- Provide medical and clinical services to Behavioral Health adult clients including psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health and substance use disorders.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, ensuring appropriate treatment adjustments as needed.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests and EKGs for screening and diagnosis, referring clients to specialized medical and clinical services when necessary.
- Prepare medical justification and documentation for clients to obtain prescribed medication, assist in applying for patient assistance programs, and manage prescriptions in accordance with financial status.
- Manage a patient caseload, providing necessary documentation for medical direction and supervision, including chart reviews and outcome assessments as required by the Virginia Board of Nursing and Board of Medicine.
- Conduct Tardive Dyskinesia screening as appropriate and provide health maintenance counseling, health promotion, illness prevention, and medication management education to clients.
- Travel to and perform duties at several department locations within the City as needed.
- Provide consultation and training to nursing, clinical, and administrative staff, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.

**Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
- $4,000 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
- $4,000 will be awarded upon completing the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- $4,000 will be awarded upon completing the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires a Masters Degree in a nursing related field and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing. Possession of a valid license as a nurse practitioner; certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; a nurse practitioner with prescriptive authority issued by the State of Virginia and possessing a DEA number within 90 days of being in position. Must have a current and valid drivers license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
Experience working with adults with substance use disorders.
Experience with conducting crisis assessments and providing intervention with adults.
Current VA Licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner w/ prescriptive authority & DEA number.
Experience providing Tardive Dyskinesia screening.
Experience providing consultation and training to nursing, clinical and administrative staff.
