JOB DESCRIPTION
DIRECT ACCOUNTABILITY: Interim Director of STEM Learning
SUMMARY:
The Character Education Manager is a seasoned professional who will be tasked with
integrating positive character development into MODS educational experiences, helping
to foster critical thinking, caring, cooperation, and confidence in learners of all ages.
The Manager will develop character-based curricula for current and new exhibits and
programs, create training materials, and deliver ongoing staff training in collaboration
with the Museum’s HR Department. They will also assist with evaluation processes.
Additionally, the role involves participating in educational development teams. All
activities will be aligned with the MODS Learning Framework, which emphasizes
learning through play and exploration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Youth Development, or
a related field (Master’s preferred); or equivalent work experience (4+ years). Over 5
years of experience working in museums or similar environments, with a strong
background in child development and youth engagement. In-depth knowledge of
emotional, intellectual, and social development across different developmental stages,
particularly for children ages 0-10. Proven ability to design, develop, and implement
educational programs with a focus on positive psychology principles that align with
school and community values. Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal skills;
adept at presenting complex ideas in an accessible manner for children and caregivers.
Strong editing abilities to ensure clarity and professionalism. Skilled in building and
maintaining relationships with children, families, community partners, and colleagues.
Experienced in mentoring and fostering team collaboration. Comfortable leading group
activities, training sessions, and large presentations. Capable of adapting to changes,
managing competing priorities, and ensuring program success. Demonstrates strong
ethical judgment and respect for others, with a focus on collaboration and team
success. Committed to creating inclusive, age-appropriate programming aligned with
community and educational values. Ability to design and assess character development
curriculum and adjust programming to meet children's evolving needs.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Curriculum Development & Collaboration:
curriculum for exhibits and programs.
o Create and deliver training materials for staff, interns, and volunteers in
partnership with the HR Department.
o Work with the VP of Exhibits, interns, and the evaluation team to conduct
evaluations of programs.
o Collaborate with the STEM Learning Department to create program
curriculum and content for the 4C’s (Caring, Critical Thinking,
Cooperation, and Confidence) Family Resource Kit and Educator Guide.
o Lead efforts to develop best practices within the Museum for fostering
critical thinking, action-oriented behaviors, and understanding of multiple
perspectives.
- Staff Mentorship & Collaboration:
knowledge with colleagues, particularly in identity development.
o Mentor frontline staff in the implementation of educational
programming.
o Provide support in building networks outside the museum to further
MODS goals.
o Communicate regularly with stakeholders to understand needs and
enhance MODS offerings.
- Partnership Building & Strategic Outreach:
relationships to benefit MODS.
o Develop character corners in Broward libraries.
o Engage with diverse populations, ensuring developmentally meaningful
programming and professional service.
- Program Leadership & Engagement:
interactive programs for children, adult caregivers, and educators.
o Provide focus and guidance to support adult engagement in children’s
learning and development across Museum experiences.
o Lead brainstorming sessions for new experience development projects,
modeling the implementation of learning experience objectives.
o Lead and plan specialty programs, including
school/group/community/camp programs.
- Exhibit Support & Event Planning:
teams to support exhibits and related programming.
o Assist with planning and delivery of significant museum events such as
camps, festivals, and other public celebrations.
- Cross Department Collaboration & Communication:
o Work with Executive staff, Department Heads, and other teams to
implement initiatives aligned with the Museum’s strategic plans.
o Participate in the development of new programs and activities that
support exhibits and contribute to exhibit design.

This
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional frontline, customer-facing, fast-paced, non-formal
educational museum setting.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to perform the following physical behaviors repetitively throughout a shift:
standing, walking, handling, reaching horizontally, grasping firmly, reaching above the
shoulder, reaching below the waist, pushing buttons, bending, twisting, stooping,
squatting, crouching, kneeling, and pushing.
in extreme temperatures. Will need to work with modern technology including walkie
talkie radio, computer, microphones, and tablets. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. and stand
for long periods of time.
This is a full-time, exempt
Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Will be required to work some evenings, weekends and holidays. Schedule to be
determined weekly by your Director.
TRAVEL:
Some overnight travel may be expected for this
local community events.
