POSITION SUMMARY: The Sales Manager is responsible for ensuring customer retention and profitability by hiring, training, and measuring the performance of sales representatives and establishing customer-focused sales standards.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally expected to travel, however the normal day-to-day operations will be conducted in a professional dealership setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Forecast goals and objectives for sales, gross, and key expenses on a monthly and annual basis
- Hire, train, motivate, counsel, and monitor the performance of all new-and used sale employees
- Prepare and administer an annual operating budget for the sales department
- Acknowledge and comply with federal, state, and local regulations that affect new- and used- vehicle sales
- Direct and schedule the activities of all department employees, ensuring proper staffing at all times
- Assist individual sales representatives in setting aggressive yet realistic monthly goals and objectives, and provide them with the support to meet these goals
- Ensure proper follow-up of all potential buyers by developing, implementing, and monitoring a prospect and sale control system
- Develop, implement, and monitor a follow-up system for new- and used- vehicle purchasers
- Maintain teamwork in a customer-focused sales environment throughout the sales, delivery, and follow-up process
- Provide effective communication throughout the sales department as well as interdepartmentally
- Ensure the new- and used- vehicle sale representatives understand and follow dealership policies and procedures
- Provide proper product and training resources for sales representatives on a regular and continuous basis
- Oversee the efforts of new- and used- vehicle sales representatives to enhance the image and customer satisfaction ratings of the dealership
- Work with sales representatives on programs that will increase the new- and used- vehicle car gross and F&I penetration
- Ensure sales representatives’ close deals in accordance to dealership standards
- Establish and maintain standards for the delivery of vehicles to customers
- Provide management with accurate floor traffic control data on a daily basis
- Review inventory daily to ensure the proper mix of grounded stock for maximum turnover efficiency
- Recommend to the general manager the new- and used-car inventory to be carried by color, model, and equipment, based on a variety of customer and market analyses
- Direct merchandising and advertising efforts for the new- and used- vehicle department in conjunction with the sales managers
- Assist in the development of advertising campaigns and other promotions
- Assist the used-vehicle department with trade appraisals as needed
- Maintain an accurate daily log that reflects all sales activities in the dealership
- Conduct business in an ethical and professional manner
- Complete deal settlement sheets and turns into accounting office in a prompt and timely manner
- Monitor and approve department employees bi-weekly timesheets and monthly commissions- follow proper procedures in accordance to dealership standards
- Participate in HR operations, by following proper protocol when handling employee relation issues
- Ensure compliance and follows proper procedures with federal and state laws, compensation claims, OSHA standards, leave, etc. Contact human resources immediately to ensure the accurate reporting options, if needed
- Follow performance review program, ensuring employees are reviewed annually
- Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time
- Maintain professional appearance in accordance with the employee handbook
- Maintain an organized, safe, and clean work environment at all times
- Expected to conduct daily and weekly sales meetings
- Expected to attend manager meetings
- Expected to arrive to work on time and work required shift
- Follow instructions from supervisor
- Interact effectively with co-workers
- Receive feedback from supervisor in a positive manner
- Work experience in sales or a related field; dealership experience preferred.
- Demonstrate knowledge in the area of sales and ability to meet monthly sales standards
- Advance computer skills, specifically in Reynolds and Reynolds
- Understand the importance of and maintain confidentiality
- Understand and follow work rules, policies, and procedures
