Specimen Collection Technician

Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a full-time Specimen Collection Technician to work within our Inpatient Specimen Collection Department.

The primary purpose of the Inpatient Specimen Collector is to collect venous, arterial, and capillary blood specimens for analysis by the laboratory technical staff. This role also involves supporting and assisting in obtaining non-blood specimens within scope, such as routine sterile and clean catch cup urinalysis, nasal swabs for viral culture, COVID-19, flu, and throat swabs for strep or throat culture.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Junior College/Technical School preferred.
• Phlebotomy Certification from an approved school OR 6 months experience required.
  • The experience must include venipuncture and specimen collections.
• National Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
• AHA BLS required.
• Successful completion of the Medical Terminology exam required.
