Starting Salary Range: The starting salary range for this position will be in the $22.93/hour to $23.61/hour range, depending on experience, education, and skills relevant to the position. Please note that the indicated starting salary range describes the range for an incumbent in this position. Most new staff generally start at the beginning of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.

Location: Hopi Nation, AZ, Albuquerque, NM, or Gallup, NM. Partially remote eligible

Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) is a program of Conservation Legacy (CL). ALCC provides conservation service opportunities for indigenous youth, young adults, and recent-era military veterans in Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona and works with other Native American communities and conservation corps across the country to provide similar opportunities. Our vision is to lead our Nations back to ecological and cultural well-being and we do this by empowering individuals to positively impact their lives, their communities, and the environment. ALCC crews are supported from operational bases in Acoma Pueblo, Albuquerque, Zuni Pueblo, Gallup, and Kykotsmovi (Hopi), with an Individual Placement (IP) program that serves the region.

Position Summary:

The Program Coordinator’s (PC) primary responsibilities are to build relationships with leaders and community members. The PC will develop local partnerships, projects, and recruitment networks to support the development and maintenance of a program office in local communities. The overarching objective of this position is to connect young people to land and build career and leadership skills that can help support their community.

Outcomes & Functions of Position:

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Develop and implement a crew member recruiting strategy
  • Attend outreach local events and volunteer opportunities
  • Interview, select, and onboard AmeriCorps Members and crew leaders
  • Maintain member personnel files in organizational database
  • Contribute photos and narratives to program social media

Field Support

  • Mentor and supervise field personnel
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, and emotional support to crews in the field
  • Ensure project quality and quantity by providing technical assistance to and accountability of crew leaders in the field
  • Enforce all ALCC and CL Policies and Procedures
  • Participate in emergency on-call system and manage field incidents as they arise with support from crew program team
  • Oversee inventory and maintenance of program tools, gear, and equipment at location and assist logistics staff with tracking program inventory

Project Coordination and Training

  • Work with colleagues to develop and implement training including technical trails, chainsaw, herbicide application, medical, leadership, and facilitation skills
  • Work with project partners to coordinate project logistics and technical assistance
  • Develop and maintain partnerships and standing with community and project partners, including tribal government agencies and non-profits
  • Train crew leaders and members on policies, protocols, and safety culture

General Administration

  • Manage multiple databases for recruitment, selection, onboarding, payroll, timesheets, and AmeriCorps information
  • Manage and maintain accurate reporting of all necessary information and complete program reports including field site visits, recruiting notes, and accomplishments
  • Assist ALCC directors and managers with end-of-year reporting, including gathering of project evaluations from partners and other data
  • Work within an established program budget; manage credit cards, receipts, and financial reporting
  • Work closely with administrative staff to ensure completion of paperwork tasks and AmeriCorps requirements to compliance standards
  • Maintain an organized operational base and assist managers to ensure health and safety compliance of workplace

Organizational Advocacy

  • Successfully engages, leads and supports an inclusive work environment for those of underrepresented populations within the organization and the communities we serve.
  • Leads or participates in organizational-wide teams, projects and initiatives that support the work of the Strategic Plans goals.
  • Reports any potential complaints within the organization as identified in the Personnel Policy Manual.
  • Assists or leads other responsibilities, as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience with a youth conservation corps or other professional leadership experience.
  • Relevant medical certification (WFR, WFA, WEMT, or OEC).
  • Competency in the outdoors, including camping and outdoor cooking skills.
  • Experienced skill level in all or most of the following: trail construction & maintenance, chainsaw operation & maintenance, hand tool maintenance, fencing, herbicide application, backcountry travel with a strong emphasis placed on multiple years of previous trail construction and maintenance experience.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office programs and applications, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to keep others and oneself, in remote locations, accountable to expectations.
  • Valid Driver’s License and Insurable Driving Record per Personnel Policies.
  • Must be able to pass the organization’s criminal history check requirements.
  • Exhibits the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams or with a variety of populations, including those underrepresented at our organization and those of BIPOC communities.
  • Ability to successfully work in a fluid, changing work environment.
