Mail Services Clerk

Job Summary:
The Mail Services Clerk reports to the Mail Services Manager and will be responsible for receiving, sorting and delivering the incoming mail for University departments and student dormitories. This will include sorting and metering outgoing mail; packing and shipping all outgoing shipments; maintaining records of all receipts and shipments; operation of all mailing equipment; and knowledge of postal and shipping regulations. Cross training for other duties as assigned in the Mail Services Department.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
- Receives and sorts incoming mail for delivery.
- Provides mail delivery to campus community.
- Operate the meter machine, sort mail for presort, discount and first-class mail and meter all mail daily.
- Sort and distribute all incoming mail and parcels to appropriate destination in a timely manner.
- Operate computer system to record charges for outgoing mail.
- Sort and prepare all outgoing mail to according to presort and US Postal regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Acquire and maintain a thorough working knowledge of postal regulations in order to provide quality service to the campus.
- Follow all university policies and procedure for specific mail services.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Equivalent Education/Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Ability to lift objects up to 70 pounds.
- Must maintain a valid Oklahoma Drivers license and ability to drive mail service vehicles.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
- Strong customer service with a can-do attitude and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
- Ability to follow schedules and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
Physical Demands
Requires standing, stooping, bending and walking. Ability to lift objects up to 70 pounds.
