Job Description
MISSION:
To produce radiographs to customer and PCC specifications for evaluation of castings.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Setup
- Checks routing or requests to determine x-ray needs on parts.
- Reviews Technique Cards to determine setup requirements, including x-ray techniques, part positions, and Film/IP requirements based on Techniques Cards.
- Sets up additional radiographs of defect areas not covered by Technique Cards.
- Inspects condition and maintains Film/IP and cassettes. Follows proper handling techniques.
- Sets up castings on tables in x-ray machines including fixturing, placement of Film/IPs, and DICOM tag identification and penetrameters on Film/IP; sets exposure parameters.
- Determines priority of radiographs to be taken.
- Develops best practice setup requirements for newly developed techniques when needed.
- Visually inspects castings for dirt, penetrant, grinding debris, etc.
2. X-Ray Operation
- Operates x-ray machine control panels and equipment to take multiple views of castings, adjusting radiographic variables such as tube height, voltage, and exposure times within customer specifications.
- Monitors, maintains, and generates exposures for System Qualifications on X-ray equipment per customer and PCC specifications.
- Regularly conducts more than one radiographic examination concurrently, and is expected to be able to operate all machines.
- Removes Film/IP from casting for image processing, while maintaining proper Film/IP handling techniques.
- After image processing, checks samples of radiographs on each casting for inner fearing artifacts, clarity, coverage, pixel value, and sensitivity; makes changes within customer and PCC specifications; records any changes made; reshoots exposure when needed.
- Willingness to be audited without notice by all Auditors, both PCC Internal and External auditing groups. e.g., PCC NDTE, NADCAP, ISO 9000, etc.
3. Safety
- Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
- Safely operates all equipment and tools.
- Identifies and reports safety problems.
4. OTHER (MARGINAL) ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Performs other tasks as directed and other x-ray department personnel activities.

Experience & Education
- Training is provided on the job.
- Radiography Level Courses must be completed (radiation safety, digital method training, etc.)
- Radiographer Level l Certification must be completed for all modalities (Film, CR, DDA). Must re-certify - Level every five years.
Required Skills
- Radiography skills as demonstrated by the competent performance of all duties OR an equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.
- High school graduation or GED (necessary for NDT Certification)
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Ability to read, follow and interpret Technique Cards, Quality Control Manuals, and other technical specifications.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
