Application Support Specialist I or II

This is technical support work in the maintenance and daily operation of complex application systems for the City’s Technology Services Department. Work involves responsibility for coordinating and participating in technical support, including support for a Microsoft Office environment; administering vendor software packages; assisting in the coordination of system updates, job scheduling, documentation, and support for application software; operating system installation, configuration and troubleshooting; and installing desktops, laptops, scanning devices and local and network printers. Work may also include performing Active Directory GPO administration, PowerShell scripting and VMware VDI administration; An employee in this class must be a self-starter who is highly motivated and able to independently set work schedules and complete tasks with minimum supervision and high-quality results; and will serve as a liaison between the City and vendors and will participate in the selection process of hardware and software.
Salary: $52,696 - $95,097

The starting salary and selection into an Application Support Specialist position, at level I or level II, will depend upon qualifications and experience. The entry level pay for the Application Support Specialist II is $59,648.
To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Have a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
- Have previous experience as a systems administrator, supporting computer hardware and software, and providing end user support.
- Have experience supporting a Microsoft Office environment.
- Possess excellent customer service skills.
- Be able to communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely, orally and in writing.
- Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have a valid Bachelor’s degree.
- Have experience with Apple and Android mobile phones and tablets.
- Have the ability to work evenings and weekends when required to support City meetings and events.
- Have experience with virtual collaboration and meeting technology.
- Have considerable previous experience providing desktop support to users in a Microsoft Windows networked environment.
- Have experience with Active Directory GPO administration, Microsoft SCCM, PowerShell scripting, Windows 10 Enterprise and VMware VDI administration.
- Have considerable progressive experience in data processing or information systems operations.
- Have knowledge of networking concepts, database administration, and related systems.
- Have basic knowledge of local and wide area network concepts.
- Have some experience working with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
- Are skilled in developing and coordinating preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
- Are proficient in work planning and scheduling; and have a working understanding of asset management concepts.
