What You Will Do

Performs essential account service and retention functions for Sharp Health Plan large group commercial group insurance products. Interacts with brokers and employer group contacts to renew commercial group insurance products, implement benefit enrollment and education following sale, and retain customers through superior service and support. Interfaces, troubleshoots, and problem solves inter-departmentally as well as with other Sharp HealthCare entity contacts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1 Year experience in sales or account management in the health plan/insurance industry.
  • Life Agent license, California - CA Department of Insurance - PREFERRED

Essential Functions

  • Completes administrative responsibilities: Generates and produces monthly retention and business activity reports as required. Prepares and submits expense reports according to established policies and procedures.
  • Completes other duties as assigned: Participates in special projects and other duties as assigned. These may include, but are not limited to, work groups, proposals, audits, and backup support for other departments.
  • Maintain account management process: Successfully manages broker and employer group relationships for in-force large group accounts. Maintains call logs and various documentation of customer contacts (e.g., telephone, email, face-to-face meetings, activity tracking reports). Tracks and trends problems to identify target areas where Plan processes and policies can be improved. At a minimum, meets established turnaround times and deadlines for renewal group premium quotes (in conjunction with the Underwriting Department). Works toward increasing penetration within eligible subscribers and dependents via establishment and maintenance of an active business relationship with employer accounts. Plans and organizes new and renewing group installations and open enrollments, including oral presentations and coordination of enrollment processes. Serves as a resource to employer groups on improved benefit designs and value-added services. Provides information and education regarding available products and services to brokers and agents to support sales and retention goals.
  • Maintain competitor intelligence and monitoring process: Develops and maintains a process for obtaining and providing feedback regarding the development and implementation of new products, presentation strategies, and proposal materials. Establishes and maintains current knowledge of competitor products, strategies, and other sales and services activities that may affect Sharp Health Plan sales activities.
  • Provides internal and external customer service: Provides prompt, accurate, and excellent services to internal and external customers. Develops solid professional working relationships with various internal departments and units and, as required, vendors, providers, employers, brokers, and other customers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Managed Care (HMO) and indemnity products, benefits, services, policies, financing, and underwriting procedures preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Problem solving capabilities with experience in developing and executing task-oriented action plans.
  • Interpersonal skills that promote positive interaction with corporate customers, employee associations, community brokers, and HMO provider-group leadership.
  • Basic computer literacy (i.e., Microsoft Office and Email).
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
