Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
This is a Research Grant Position (RGP) to coordinate a 5-year study aimed at training churches (via an online training) in multiple counties to implement an evidence-based intervention that mobilizes social support to increase walking in older African American church members. Additional training and technical assistance will be delivered via telephone and Zoom. Evaluation data collection will occur on-site at churches and via online surveys. The Program Coordinator will, with guidance, develop, coordinate, and implement both intervention and evaluation activities. They will also develop a REDCap database and manage it, and will participate in communication and dissemination activities with our Community Advisory Board. The project is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is located at the University of South Carolina Prevention Research Center. The Center has been continuously funded since 1993.
Job Related Minimum Required Education And Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 1 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in public health, psychology, or a health-related field. Experience with community research or programs, faith-based organizations, physical activity interventions, and older adults. Experience with research studies.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Experience coordinating a large-scale research project in a fast-paced environment is essential. Ability to create and manage deadlines, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and work with minimal supervision. Ability to multi-task and work efficiently under time pressure while maintaining high-quality work. Careful attention to detail and timely follow-up are critical. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with a diverse team comprised of academic, church, public health, and organizational partners. Must be culturally competent and at ease working in and moving about in underserved neighborhoods and with older adults. Able and willing to travel to multiple counties in South Carolina for data collection, including on the weekends. Flexible on occasions when work schedule may vary. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Excel). Working knowledge of REDCap and/or linked databases is desirable.

In subsequent years, oversees the delivery of the online training to churches and delivers telephone- and Zoom-based technical assistance to deliver a walking program for older adult members.
