Job Summary

The Family Support Worker works directly with families, visiting them weekly to provide information and employ a highly regarded curriculum to improve parenting skills and educate families about child development. They assist families in accessing community resources and are knowledgeable about both community services and the challenges faced by families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops strength-based service plans to address identified challenges.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with primary care providers and community services.
  • Keeps accurate records of all client contacts and ensures confidentiality of clients’ records.
  • Demonstrates creativity, innovation, and resourcefulness.
  • Models parent-child interactions with families.
  • Provides home visits to families identified as “at risk” for abuse and/or neglect.
  • Offers services including parenting and child development education, advocacy, and support.
  • Completes program assessments and agency-required documentation.
  • Makes home visits as needed.
  • Provides families with information on child development, safety, and community resources.
  • Utilizes program-approved curriculum to enhance parenting skills and understanding of child development.
  • Assists clients in seeking additional community services as needed.
  • Co-facilitates group sessions with team members.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings.
  • Accepts new assignments as determined by the supervisor.
  • Immediately reports any situation in which a child may be at risk.
  • Testifies in court as necessary.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate community resources.
  • Promotes the agency's services, programs, and philosophy.

Experience and Skills

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s Degree in a related field preferred.

Experience

  • Valid state-issued Driver License and own vehicle.
  • Automotive liability insurance per agency standards; driving required for home visits.
  • Team player able to work in diverse environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage diverse families.
  • Organized and able to work independently.
  • Experience in urban communities and family homes.
  • Cultural competence; bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • May require weekend or evening hours.
  • Physically able to perform essential job functions.
