Job Summary
This is a grant funded position within the Department of Advising and Academic Support. The Professional Academic Advisor Grant Team Lead. (PAAGTL) will provide academic guidance and advisement to students on policies, procedures, and program requirements to fulfill a certificate or degree program, and will proactively participate in the planning and delivery of academic advising services for students that promotes comprehensive educational opportunities.
Responsible for sustaining an environment of academic and professional excellence for students along with providing proactive and timely outreach, referrals, and intervention with student populations through a variety of communication methods.
The PAAGTL maintains student engagement and follow through by tracking the advancement of students from inception to graduation. As the team lead for the grant, the team lead will train, lead, support, coach, and collect data for the grant program.
This position requires a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Additional hours may be required. Some travel may be required between campus locations.
Job Duties
The primary responsibility of this position is to advise students. The PAAGTL will support students as they transition at various points throughout their academic careers at Southwest, which include:
Self- exploration that focuses on strengths, interests, and values
Major and career exploration
Identification of co-curricular, career and experience learning, and leadership opportunities to support both academic and professional development
Selection of major and development of an academic plan that aligns with strengths, aspirations, and abilities
Lead, train, support, and coach a student group
Collect data for the grant program
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, human services or related field.
A background check will be required for the successful candidate.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with students in a post-secondary institution
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to provide a high standard of customer service when assisting students with problem resolution and ability to seek input from alternate authority if necessary.
Knowledge of University and degree requirements.
Ability to keep up-to-date changes in policies and procedures to maintain current working knowledge.
Knowledge of advising practices and principles.
Ability to use good judgment and work effectively nuder pressure.
Ability to record and maintain files accurately, in paper and software programs.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
Knowledge of time management techniques.
Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with an ever-growing student population.
Ability to communicate efficiently.
Physical Demands/ Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, or
feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required
to stand; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift
and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
