Bricolage Academy Middle School is searching for a 3rd Grade ELA and Social Studies Teacher. Bricolage is a New Orleans charter school that started in 2013 and will be growing until we serve students in all grades, K - 12th.
SCHOOL OVERVIEW
Instructional Model
The 3rd grade ELA and Social Studies teacher will provide common-core-aligned instruction that is culturally relevant. The Social Studies curriculum will derive from LDOE guides, the DBQ Project, and The Writing Revolution, preparing students to tackle challenges in an interconnected world. In ELA, students will learn from the Wit and Wisdom Curriculum, sharing literacy strategies with Social Studies.
Students will also take Science using the Amplify Curriculum and Math with the Bridges in Mathematics Curriculum, offering hands-on learning experiences.
Co-curricular experiences will include visual art, music, physical education, and innovation, introducing students to various disciplines.
Personalized Learning
Students will learn at their own pace, working towards individual academic and social-emotional goals with Personalized Learning Plans. During this time, students may engage in:
- Adaptive learning programs
- Teacher curated playlists
- Independent practice
- Small group remediation, intervention, or extension
- Projects
- Makerspace
A Personalized Learning Platform like the Summit Learning Program will facilitate this learning.

We utilize Restorative Practices and strategies from Responsive Classroom to build a safe, inclusive, and supportive culture.

DUTIES
The 3rd Grade ELA and Social Studies Teacher will:
- Focus on student outcomes and deliver effective instruction.
- Create a classroom culture where students share ownership, treat each other with empathy, and learn responsibly.
- Deliver engaging ELA and Social Studies instruction, using:
- Balanced literacy and explicit writing instruction strategies.
- Project and experience-based instruction.
- Inquiry-based learning in history/social studies.
- Supplement traditional narratives with culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Differentiated instruction and integration of technology and innovation.
- Engage actively in the school community.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Strong belief in Bricolage Academy’s mission and values.
- Commitment to equitable educational access and outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana teaching certificate.
- Experience in raising student achievement.
Preferred
- Experience teaching 3rd-5th grade ELA and Social Studies.
- Familiarity with Common Core Standards and scripted curricula.
- Experience with culturally responsive teaching strategies.
