About Us: Headquartered in Paterson, NJ, Straight and Narrow is the largest program of its kind, providing innovative and compassionate services to individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders. We seek dedicated, caring individuals for our Residential/Outpatient Treatment Facilities and Community Programs.
Position Summary: Certified Peer Recovery Specialists provide non-clinical assistance to peers in recovery from substance use issues through advocacy, mentoring, and education. They support the recovery process of individuals seeking help for drug and alcohol problems, aligning with the 10 Guiding Principles of Recovery.
Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) fosters a supportive community for clients and staff, aiding the growth and recovery of parents and guardians of children receiving services from the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
- The PRS aids in creating and implementing social activities, fostering a positive environment for clients and their children.
- When applicable, assists clients in accessing Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT).
- Participates in special events and training for clients, families, and caregivers, providing advocacy by accompanying clients to meetings and hearings as requested.
- Encourages and promotes client leadership opportunities in the community.
- Assists clients in developing self-advocacy skills and building a recovery support system.
- Links with community organizations to provide support for families transitioning from recovery to less intensive services.
- Advocates, mentors, educates, and supports recovery and wellness with ethical responsibility.
- Encourages client and family participation in AA/NA/GA meetings.
- When applicable, educates clients and families about the Relapse Prevention process.
- Documents psycho-educational sessions and other relevant documentation.
- Transports clients to and from activities when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent. One year of related experience required. Must be an active Certified Peer Recovery Specialist in NJ or within 6 months of licensure. Requires a car and NJ driver's license with a good driving history. Must be detail-oriented, flexible, and computer literate.
