Position Summary
Works under general direction of a Deputy Administrator to direct and schedule personnel in maintenance, repair and upkeep of the facility’s building structures and systems, including plumbing, electrical wiring and fixtures, machinery, equipment, electronics, vehicles and institutional grounds.
Minimum Qualifications
- Five (5) years in a Maintenance lead or supervisory capacity; AND
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, management, or related field; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages the supervisor and maintenance staff and assigned inmates/residents in the performance of their duties and evaluates as prescribed by the facility and corporate policy. This includes, but is not limited to, training new employees, evaluating performance and preparing written performance appraisals, listening to complaints and effectively resolving disputes or problems, developing work schedules for subordinates, monitoring work assignments and preparing inmate/resident work assignments.
- Schedules and assigns work activities of assigned employees and is accountable for results.
- Monitors, inspects, and interprets maintenance work performed in-house, and projects accomplished by outside contractors for compliance with building codes, blueprints, manuals and other applicable procedures or specifications and determine that workmanship and materials follow current building and correctional standards.
- Coordinates activities with other Division management to meet divisional goals and objectives.
- Performs routine inspections for the facility for safety, maintenance and related issues and directs corrective actions for problems detected.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
KSA’s
- Knowledge of the equipment and systems they are responsible for, including knowledge of maintenance best practices and the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex issues.
- Proficient knowledge of the latest technological advancements and be able to apply this knowledge effectively.
- Ability to display good decision-making skills, to make crucial decisions regarding maintenance priorities and resource allocations, and equipment.
- Strong analytical skills, the ability to think critically and be resourceful in finding innovative solutions to complex issues. This involves troubleshooting equipment failures, identifying the root cause of a problem, and implementing corrective actions.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks, such as responding to urgent equipment issues, conducting preventive maintenance, and managing administrative duties.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, develop maintenance schedules, and allocate resources efficiently.
Special Requirements
- Must be able to function in a prison environment.
- Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license or secure one by date of employment.
- Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, and on-call, as required.
- Must pass a NCIC background check.
- Must successfully pass a drug test.
Physical Requirements
- Must pass a physical examination.
