Job Description
The Graphic Artist is responsible for working independently and with art directors and production staff to conceptualize, design, and produce compelling and inspiring communication materials in support of the Laboratory’s technical research programs and operational initiatives. As part of the Laboratory’s in-house creative team, the Graphic Artist will produce both print and digital graphics, including booklets, flyers, posters, communication collateral, information graphics, event materials, and digital sign banners. The Graphic Artist must have a demonstrated creative ability and a superior understanding of graphic design and typography principles within the visual design field. This position will work with art directors to create effective visual content designed for highly technical and mainstream audiences, and will also conceptualize subject matter on their own. The ability to work independently and in teams, and adapt to shifting priorities is critical in this fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

Primary responsibilities:
- Apply creative solutions to standard communications collateral and scientific presentation materials and work through multiple iterations as required to meet project goals
- Work with style guides and templates to produce cohesive communication products within a brand or campaign
- Troubleshoot and test customer supplied, print-ready files for adherence to standards and aesthetics, including color-correction, file formatting, and file construction
- Understand and apply the different requirements and delivery models for both print and digital design
- Work with art directors and production staff to determine design elements and production parameters in support of client expectations
- Collaborate, brainstorm, and strategize with multiple teams on a wide range of communications materials
- Organize diverse assets to clearly create maximum impact with an overwhelming amount of information
- Accept design direction and constructive criticism, and also provide feedback and ideas to solve design challenges
- And above all, utilize excellent communication and customer service skills when working with and managing customer expectations
- BA/BFA in Communication Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, or related field or equivalent experience
- 3–5 years of visual design experience in a fast-paced, customer-facing, deadline-driven environment
- Demonstrated capabilities in presenting ideas written and orally in a cross-functional environment
- Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign a must) and MS Office applications in both Mac and WIN environments
- Solid working knowledge of color theory, perspective, composition, and information design
- Ability to work successfully one-on-one with customers as well as thrive in a team environment
- Organizational and time-management skills for meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- A portfolio of work must be presented prior to or at time of interview
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance is required
