Job Title: IMAGE PREP/TRANSC EDITOR

Unit: Medical Imaging Admin.

Shift: Sat & Sun, 6:30p-7a

Position Summary

This position is accountable for assisting radiologists in the Medical Imaging Department, expediting image interpretation and ensuring prompt results and turnaround time. This position is responsible for having a working knowledge of the PACS system and the ability to assist physician/customers in locating specific images. Knowledge of other systems such as PowerScribe and Dictaphone. Complete knowledge of downtime procedures. May assists in training of new staff, including Radiologists and medical staff, on basic System skills, current releases, and operational changes. Manages critical back-up network for Surgery cases. Creates CDs for patients and physicians. This position reports to the Administrative Manager and works closely with technologists in Medical Imaging as well as the radiologists and medical staff. The incumbent receives and processes requests for call reports. Calls interpretations back to physicians or nursing units. The Image Prep Tech is the only person in the Image Service Center from 9:00p.m. until 5:30 a.m. and is responsible for any and all job functions during that time as well as maintaining control of image flow to the radiologist. Good knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to verbalize and use proper pronunciation when reading reports to physicians and/or the nursing floors. May be required to Edit reports with a good working knowledge of the PowerScribe dictation systems.

Education

Education: High School diploma required. Associate Degree preferred.

Experience

Experience: Minimum of three-five years of office/computer hardware/software experience.

Minimum 2-3 years transcription or editing experience, preferably hospital based. Successfully completed a Medical Terminology course.

• Demonstrated customer service skills when responding to requests from radiologists and physician customers via telephone, facsimile, or e-mail.

• Must exhibit strong oral skills and able to interact with physicians and employees from all levels of the organization.

• Has the ability to utilize complex integrated Radiology Information and PACS systems for processing information and for archiving and retrieving images and reports as well as train new staff members in their use and application in the administrative environment.

• Has working knowledge of PowerScribe dictation system to be able to edit reports as necessary to facilitate meeting report turnaround goals.

• Upon request, prints or burns images to CD for distribution to physician offices' hospital departments, Surgery, and other institutions.

• Utilizes complex image back-up procedure daily to ensure image availability to Surgery in the event of an unexpected PACS downtime.
