Provide administrative and clerical support to the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics.
Education and Experience
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent preferred.
- Two (2) plus years office experience preferably in an academic environment.
Skills and Knowledge
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 365, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel; Cascade; Adobe Suite; PeopleSoft, MySlice.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Syracuse University’s Policies and Procedures preferred.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Office experience helpful, as well the ability to work independently and handle confidential matters with tact and diplomacy are essential.
Responsibilities
- Perform administrative and clerical duties that require limited independent judgment yet some level of confidentiality.
- Coordination and submission, review and reporting of student academic forms; petitions, independent studies, and/drop forms; liaison with college recorders to ensure student information has been submitted; upload petitions to shared drive.
- Process major/minor declarations.
- Monitor Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics emails and triage student questions.
- Maintain department records of syllabi and office hours, upload to shared drive.
- Coordinate course evaluations and send to coordinators for distribution.
- Update department webpage with news, events, and announcements.
- Maintain office supplies and equipment; order inventory items and arrange maintenance for office equipment.
- Coordinate departmental receptions; make travel and hotel arrangements for guest speakers; design flyers for events; parking arrangements.
- Maintain reception area for main office; answer phone and take messages, greet students, faculty and campus visitors; answer inquiries; open main office daily; restock copiers and supplies in mailroom daily; sort mail.
- Schedule meetings.
- Maintain department bulletin boards and display cases with current information.
- Respond to general department inquiries.
- Forward inquiries to department representatives as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
