Job Duties:
The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney is responsible for prosecuting those charged with violating the criminal laws of Virginia in Virginia Beach. We are seeking a clerk who will perform clerical work as assigned. Must be willing to work in a high-volume, team-driven office environment supporting specialized clients and agencies in the prosecution of criminal activity. This position will work directly with the Body Worn Camera Program, which includes technology-based tasks, processing body-worn camera footage and other digital evidence that is shared with our office.
Assigned responsibilities require a timely and professional response. Must be able to sit and operate a computer terminal for up to 6 hours each day. Work performed is often of a sensitive or confidential nature and employee shall remain in conformance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, rules, and regulations. Individual must be able to evaluate the given tasks and respond accordingly with little supervision quickly and accurately.
Duties can include:
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, general orders, rules, regulations, and standards; ensures maintenance, availability, confidentiality, and release of records to authorized individuals per established guidelines.
- Ensuring all body-worn camera recording footage and all other digital evidence is properly cataloged and easily accessed and cross-referenced with case files.
- Operating a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; verifying accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizing word processing, databases, or other programs.
- Exercising good organizational skills while demonstrating the ability to be detail-oriented in carrying out assigned tasks.
- Performing general clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, entering data into a computer, making copies, sending/receiving faxes, filing documentation, or prepares outgoing mail/packages, or receiving incoming mail.
- Being the first point of contact for law enforcement and citizens who interact with our office.
Performing other duties as assigned and related work as required.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: High school or GED plus two (2) years experience and training in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities and associated with such positions as clerk or office assistant. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
