Position Summary

The Microbiological Technician will perform standard procedures (AOAC and FDA BAM) in order to identify levels of microbiological load for Raw, WIP and Finished Good Products. The Microbiological Technician will also prepare samples for shipment to a 3rd party laboratory for Pathogen testing. Daily result entry for batches and notification of failing results are also required tasks for this position. The Microbiological Technician will also be responsible for collection of environmental swab samples, preparation of reagents and ensuring that the thermometers are within the factory calibration date range.

Position Responsibilities

• Performs tasks required to complete the following Microbiological tests
• Standard Plate Counts
• Coliform and E.coli quantification
• Yeast and Mold determination
• Prepares samples to be shipped out to 3rd party lab for pathogen testing
• Preparation of media, plating and count of colonies
• Composite samples for testing
• Recording of samples and tracking through the testing protocol
• Input data into the SAP and notify management when issues occur
• Helps in evaluation of new technologies and methods with guidance from management
• Handles the shipping and data login of samples sent to contract labs when necessary
• Collection of environmental swab samples
• Other duties may be assigned

Position Requirements

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
