Operating Room Assistant

Job Summary

Responsible for providing essential support to surgical staffing while ensuring a smooth and efficient operating room environment. This role is critical to patient safety and the overall success of surgical procedures. Provide dedicated and detail-orientated support in a high-quality, efficient and timely manner.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team in preparing the operating room for procedures and ensuring all necessary supplies are available.
• Help transport patients to and from the operating room, ensuring their comfort and safety.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the operating room before, during, and after procedures.
• Support the surgical team by providing instruments and supplies as needed during surgeries.
• Assist with the setup and breakdown of equipment and ensure all items are properly sanitized.
• Monitor the condition of surgical equipment and report any issues to the surgical staff.
• Collaborate with nurses and surgeons to ensure a direct and efficient workflow.
• Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
  
  

Requirements And Qualifications

• Associates degree preferred; HS diploma or GED required; additional certification in healthcare highly desired.
• Proven experience (2+ years) in a healthcare setting, operating room or surgical environment is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to remain calm and focused during high-pressure situations.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills required.
• Understanding surgical procedures and terminology is an advantage.
• Physical stamina and the ability to lift or move patients is required.
• Computer skills required with minimum proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  
  

Physical Demands

• Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to enter data, provide patient care, and operate equipment.
• Corrected vision and hearing within normal range to observe and communicate with patients, providers, and staff.
• Frequent reaching, stooping, squatting, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
• Extensive standing and walking required.
• Occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Occasional exertion of 10lbs or more of force.
• Work environment may involve some exposure to hazards/physical risk.
• Position requires full range of body motion including ability to position and move patients.
