About The Role

The Vice President, Ocean & Air is responsible for managing the teams to provide exceptional customer service and on-time performance while providing leadership, direction and support for employee development. This position is responsible for operational excellence. This will be achieved by implementing and optimizing processes, systems, and workflows to deliver maximum value to our customers while improving internal operational efficiencies. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the industry and have a successful record of managing a large operation. Excellent people skills, communication skills and organization skills are critical to success.

What The Candidate Will Do

  • Work across the organization to design solutions that create value for the international community by leveraging Uber Freights, scale, people, and technologies to unlock sustainable solutions for our customers.
  • Define a clear, long-term vision and specific goals to achieve double digit growth for the international division. Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, customer needs and opportunities. Present growth strategies to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT)
  • Proactively provide global ocean and air market insight to strategic customers on industry updates, changes, carrier intelligence.
  • Leverage Business Intelligence reporting to create opportunities to demonstrate value for Customer and/or prospects for increased revenue opportunities with Customers.
  • Ensure optimal use of Uber Freight’s technology (TMS), e.g. standard practices, compliance, automation, timeliness, etc.
  • Build and broaden existing TMS relationships.
  • Proactively identify and communicate issues/challenges, propose, and implement solutions for continuous processes, cost, service, and profitability improvements.
  • Lead efforts to hire/develop/retain engaged/productive employees through commitment to training, performance management, mentoring, cross-training and professional development, including the Development & Performance Management Process and Talent Review Program.
  • Lead strategic direction to ensure execution of procurement and pricing processes for international carriers (ocean, air, drayage etc...) and supplemental technology/tools supporting operational process improvement for benchmarking, automation, consultative solutions etc.
  • Responsible oversight for new customer onboardings, implementation and process document creation (SOP/IOP).
  • Monitor and hold the management team accountable for all key job functions, including financial reporting, scorecards, annual goals, etc.
  • Accountable for detailed review, analysis, forecasting and ownership of P&L’s. Prepare annual department budget and monthly forecast updates.
  • Deliver cost savings / cost containment to customer and/or Uber Freight through proactive review and analysis of Business Intelligence Reports, as well as leverage Lean Six Sigma.
  • Through understanding of the customer’s business, drive successful contract renewals.
  • Responsible for supporting corporate initiatives that drive value, cost savings/reductions and improve overall business processes.
  • Work with support teams, including Finance & Accounting, IT and HR to ensure successful partnerships to support the success of your team and customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 14 years of related experience
  • Some travel will be required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred
  • 10 years of logistics or customer service, 5 years of management
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Working Knowledge and Utilization of CargoWise global forwarding software.
  • Working knowledge of Uber Freight LSS and how it applies to area of responsibility
  • Operations responsibility for Uber Freight’s Demand Management Process
  • High familiarity with inbound and outbound ocean customs clearance.
