Job Story
WSU Libraries is seeking a student assistant to provide services offered to the library users at the Circulation Desk.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
- Checking library materials in and out, renewing them and placing holds on them
- Learning and implementing the Library of Congress classification system
- Answering basic questions about the library, its policies and services
- Answering basic questions about the campus and giving directions to other offices
- Assisting library users with the location of materials
- Assisting library users with room bookings
- Taking payments for services such as printing and 3D printing
- Shelving items on carts and in the Reading Room
- Searching for lost/missing library materials
- Explaining the information listed in the online catalog for library users
- Gathering statistics for projects as requested by the staff
- Demonstrating basic customer service skills
- Other duties as assigned
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.
Additional Requirements
- Enrolled at WSU
- Good communication skills
- Able to follow written and oral instructions
- Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
