General Summary: The Concrete Delivery Professional will drive a concrete mixer truck equipped with either a manual or automatic transmission, utilize his/her truck to properly mix the concrete and deliver concrete to assigned job sites. The individual will be required to display a professional attitude and show respect to customers at all times. The driver will be required to calculate the amount of water required for desired slump. In addition, the incumbent will complete a variety of pre-printed forms. The position receives guidance with respect to general objectives. In the majority of tasks and projects assigned, the incumbent determines methods, work sequence, scheduling, and how to achieve objectives of assignments while operating within specific policy guidelines. Good judgment and common sense is required in all duties and any other task assigned. Normal workdays are Monday–Saturday. Hours are determined by customer need. As such, hours will vary greatly, but often include night work, up to sixteen (16) hours per shift. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) as required. This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed. It is not intended to be an all-inclusive job description as needs tend to change over time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all safety policies, procedures and established safe practices. Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or the Manager Safety & Health.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22
  • Works in a safe manner while complying with all company policies and procedures.
  • Safely operates a concrete mixer equipped with either a manual or automatic transmission, to deliver concrete mix to job sites while following all traffic regulations in a safe manner.
  • Ensures quality product via water addition – Check ticket for specific instructions related to additional water. No water may be added exceeding those instructions.
  • Upon arrival to the job, slump is to be inspected. If it is below the specified amount, add enough water to obtain the specified slump. This water will be recorded on the back of the delivery ticket, not on the front.
  • If the customer requests additional water, either to exceed the specified slump or to maintain the slump for extended periods, written authorization must first be obtained on the appropriate line on the back of the ticket. This authorization is required for each addition of water, you must also note the approximate yardage left in the truck and number of gallons added.
  • Additional water will be totaled on the back of the delivery ticket, and all water requested by the customer must be listed on the front.
  • Each truck will be required to maintain 50 gallons for post pour cleanup.
  • Provides good customer service by effectively and professionally communicating with customers, Dispatch, and other RMC staff.
  • Drives truck safely into loading position to receive mix components such as sand, crushed stone, cement, and water.
  • Reads the delivery ticket to determine type of mix to be hauled, additional products to be carried, directions to jobsite, and special instructions.
  • Adjusts slump as needed to deliver within specifications.
  • Understands slump (consistency of product) and the effects of time and temperature on the slump.
  • Demonstrates ability to be flexible with work hours, performing overtime when needed in all weather conditions, and understands that truck assignments (regardless of transmission type) are based on business needs and availability.
  • Assembles extension chutes when needed to reach the area where the concrete needs to be placed.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and comprehend, in English, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Possesses keen observation skills; pays attention to and remembers work related instructions, demonstrations, and procedures.
  • Ability to locate information on graphs such as diagrams, maps, floor plans, tables, forms, graphs, flowcharts and instrument gauges.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic personal computer skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; less than (1) one year of related experience and/or training. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • CDL Class B license (airbrake endorsement required)
  • CDL Class A license with a combination vehicle endorsement preferred
  • Ability to obtain valid DOT physical required
  • Ability to obtain Job Ready Services physical required
