Primary Responsibilities

• Collecting and organizing patient data: Health information specialists gather, analyze, and index patient care documentation. They will enter data into digital health systems
• Maintaining records: They need to ensure that medical records comply with all relevant medical, administrative, legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements
• Correcting records: If there are any errors, they may request chart corrections or request missing information from healthcare providers
• Record Retrieval and Distribution: Process and fulfill requests for health information from authorized personnel, patients, or external agencies in accordance with laws and organizational policies
• Problem Solving: Identify and resolve issues related to health information, including discrepancies in medical records
• Confidentiality: Uphold patient confidentiality and secure sensitive health information against unauthorized access
• Ensure Compliance: Adhere to all healthcare regulations and laws, including HIPAA, regarding patient privacy and data security
• Collaboration: They may work with clinicians, staff, vendors, and patients
• Training and assisting staff: They may train new staff members and assist with basic auditing. Acts as a resource to drive the identification of the skills, duration and effort required for successful problem solving

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
• 1+ years of customer service, managed care, medical insurance, or other related experience

The salary range for this role is $16.00 to $28.85 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
