Primary Responsibilities
- Collecting and organizing patient data: Health information specialists gather, analyze, and index patient care documentation. They will enter data into digital health systems
- Maintaining records: They need to ensure that medical records comply with all relevant medical, administrative, legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements
- Correcting records: If there are any errors, they may request chart corrections or request missing information from healthcare providers
- Record Retrieval and Distribution: Process and fulfill requests for health information from authorized personnel, patients, or external agencies in accordance with laws and organizational policies
- Problem Solving: Identify and resolve issues related to health information, including discrepancies in medical records
- Confidentiality: Uphold patient confidentiality and secure sensitive health information against unauthorized access
- Ensure Compliance: Adhere to all healthcare regulations and laws, including HIPAA, regarding patient privacy and data security
- Collaboration: They may work with clinicians, staff, vendors, and patients
- Training and assisting staff: They may train new staff members and assist with basic auditing. Acts as a resource to drive the identification of the skills, duration and effort required for successful problem solving

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
- 1+ years of customer service, managed care, medical insurance, or other related experience
- Bilingual (English / Spanish)
