PeaceHealth is seeking a Biomed Imaging Technician II - Clinical Engineering for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $51.84 – $51.84. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Responsible for repairs, preventative maintenance, calibration, safety testing and deployment of complex biomedical and general patient care equipment. Maintains clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan and applicable Policies and Procedures. Provides training to others including clinical staff related to the technical integration of the device/system. Leads and participates in medical equipment deployment projects.
Details of the position:
- Maintains routine and life support, diagnostic, therapeutic biomedical equipment by verifying proper operation, performing preventive maintenance inspections and accurately completing equipment repairs as assigned. May participate in on-call and shifts work schedule when necessary to meet production requirements. May participate in setting up shift schedules and workload balance activities.
- Contributes to the accurate and timely reporting of equipment maintenance history by documenting preventive maintenance inspection, repair services and other department activity as required in the computerized maintenance management system.
- Supports and contributes to staff and patient safety by adhering to established policies and procedures. Identifies and reports potential safety risks. Takes an active role in training and supporting good housekeeping and a safe environment in the Biomed department. Participates in an ongoing Quality Improvement and Safety programs. Maintains and trains other biomedical technicians on how to develop and support approved infection control concepts.
- Participates and leads the selection, acquisition, deployment, and development of long-term support of new medical equipment systems. Actively participates with clinical departments in identifying aging medical equipment and works with the departments to develop replacement strategies.
- Provides direction, oversight, orientation, on-the-job training and general training to other biomedical technicians within the department and in other departments as necessary. Maintains and enhances professional skills through participation in hospital, departmental and outside training/continuing education programs.
- Effectively works with vendors, clinical users, information technology and project managers on advance troubleshooting, projects and hospital initiatives. Oversees and maintains quality control of services provided by outside vendors.
- Oversees, monitors and trains new caregivers in the department as directed by the supervisor.
- Establishes and maintains technical literature such as manufactures literature, reference standards, specifications, and other documents necessary for supporting the program.
- Collaborates with Information Technology on biomedical and imaging equipment interface with various electronic medical records and middleware.
What you bring:
- Associate Degree Required: Biomedical Technology or Electronics or Physics or US Military Biomedical or
- Technical Program Required: with manufacturing training on CT, MRI or Angiography (Cath Lab) systems or equivalent training from third-party vendor
- Minimum of 5 years Required: Experience in biomedical equipment repair in clinical engineering department
- Must be able to cope with repeated bending, squatting, stopping, prolonged standing, walking and climbing stairs. (Required)
- Must be able to safely operate hand tools, power tools and diagnostic test equipment. (Required)
- Demonstrated ability to detect and resolve problems associated with maintenance management systems and teach counterparts on effective and timely documentation. (Required)
- Ability to step in as a team lead when necessary. (Required)
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems and interfaces. In-depth understanding of common clinical terminology as well as that of life sciences such as anatomy and physiology. (Required)
- Comprehensive understanding of computers and network architecture. (Required)
- Ability to train and mentor other biomedical technicians and co-workers. (Required)
- Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills. (Required)
- Solid verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. (Required)
- Basic medical terminology related to equipment function. (Required)
- Knowledge of biomedical equipment instrumentation. (Required)
- Skilled in using computers with Windows operating system. (Required)
- Ability to navigate multiple software sites simultaneously. (Required)
- Detail oriented with ability to key statistical data accurately. (Required)
- Good knowledge of schematics and ability to work independently on repairs, safety testing and preventive maintenance. (Required)
- Ability to perform troubleshooting, operation, repair, swapping of spare equipment and obtaining vendor support as needed for life support, diagnostic, therapeutic and ancillary hospital equipment located in clinical departments such as Critical Care, Emergency, Family Birth Center, Dialysis, Surgery and Telemetry monitoring systems. (Required)
- Ability to work with minimal supervision. (Required)
- Understanding of patient electronic medical record – EPIC preferred (Required)
- Must be able to retrieve computer data and distinguish color variations. (Required)
- Possible fast paced and challenging situations. (Required)
- Climb ladders, stairs and work in crawl spaces. (Required)
- Ability to respond to emergency codes, fire, show of force and disaster. (Required)
- Occasional exposure to potentially lethal high voltage. (Required)
- Computer skills in Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel. (Required)
