Senior Synthesis Chemist

Kao Specialties Americas LLC (KSA) is a leading supplier of oleo chemicals, performance chemicals and specialty polymers. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Kao Corporation, Tokyo, Japan, we are part of a global leader in chemicals, consumer goods, and cosmetics.

KSA is looking for a Senior Synthesis Chemist to join our product development team in High Point, NC. In this role, you will develop polymer products for diverse applications, including digital printing, paper coatings, and construction chemicals.

Key Accountabilities

• Design and conduct lab-scale synthesis of polymers and latexes for new product development and process design.
• Collaborate closely with Analytical and Applications Testing members and use data to optimize product performance rationally.
• Interface with Engineering, Analytical, and Quality Control teams to ensure seamless technology transfer and scale-up of new products.
• Expand lab capabilities as necessary and maintain the polymer synthesis and emulsification laboratory.
• Support Operations personnel in Continuous Improvement activities, cycle-time reduction efforts, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving.
• Assist in the determination of the regulatory status of new products.
• Present technical information to various audiences including management and customers.
  
  

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or chemical engineering with 10 years of industrial experience, or master’s/Ph.D degree with 5 years of relevant experience

• Strong understanding of organic synthesis methodologies
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to author and review comprehensive project reports for internal and customer use
• Commitment to safety in lab and plant environments and commitment to Responsible Care in the handling and disposal of chemicals
• Experience in the fields of digital printing materials, coatings, paper, or packaging is advantageous.
• Proficiency with office software (Word / EXCEL / PowerPoint), statistical software (JMP or Minitab), and Chemdraw
