Location: Knoxville (TN)

Contract: 12 week Paid Internship- Full Time

Reporting to: Communications Manager and Sr. VP of Marketing and External Affairs

Your Role In The Mission

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Marketing and Communications Intern to support our Team. This internship offers hands-on experience in various aspects of marketing and communication within a fast-paced start-up environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about digital storytelling, team engagement, and creative event planning. The successful candidate will help us craft compelling internal content, organize and promote engaging events, and help drive a positive and collaborative company culture. This intern should be passionate about marketing, possess strong communication skills, including writing, have an interest in accurately communicating cutting-edge science and technology, and be eager to learn and contribute to our team's success.

This position reports to the Communications Manager, who works under the direction of the Sr. VP of Marketing and Business Development

  • Content creation: Develop and curate engaging content for internal newsletters, intranet updates, announcements, and other internal communications channels.
  • Collaboration: Work with different departments to gather information and craft messages that are clear, concise, and aligned with our company values.
  • Campaign support: Assist in the planning and execution of internal communication campaigns aimed at boosting employee engagement and awareness.
  • Feedback collection: Help set up and manage feedback tools (surveys, suggestion boxes) to gather employee insights for continuous improvement.
  • Planning and coordination: Support the planning, logistics, and execution of company events, meetings, town halls, and special initiatives.
  • On-site support: Provide hands-on assistance during events, managing registrations, coordinating schedules, and ensuring a positive attendee experience.
  • Post-event analysis: Help gather feedback and prepare post-event reports to measure success and identify areas for future improvement.
  • Administrative tasks: Provide administrative support to the Marketing and Communications Team as needed.
  • Project Management: Assist with managing timelines, tracking progress, and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.

What You’ll Need

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Marketing, Communications, Business, or other related field.
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and other digital marketing tools.
  • Basic understanding of marketing principles and practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Interest in accurately communicating science and technology to different audiences, including but not limited to general public, investors, government agencies, and academic and industry collaborators.
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and willingness to take on new challenges.
