The Role

This is a hybrid leadership role encompassing both People Operations and Recruiting, with a strong emphasis on technical recruiting to support our rapid hiring needs in engineering. You will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable people processes, optimizing recruiting operations, and ensuring our talent strategy aligns with Step's ambitious growth goals.

You will be a force-multiplier who enables all other functions at Step to capitalize on centralized standards and resources that support our most valuable resource at Step: our people. You are extremely process-driven, detail-obsessed, and employee experience-focused. You have experience building a team and process from scratch. You hold yourself and others on your team to a very high standard of delivery, and you value partnership and stakeholder engagement along the way.

As the Head of Recruiting, you will lead all aspects of talent acquisition, from strategy development to execution. You will partner closely with leadership to hire top talent while also ensuring hiring excellence across all functions.

As the Head of People Operations, you will establish the frameworks, systems, and policies that enable our employees to do their best work. From onboarding to employee engagement, you will drive initiatives that elevate Step's culture, performance, and long-term talent strategy.

What You'll Do

Recruiting Strategy & Execution:

  • Develop and execute a high-impact recruiting strategy with a primary focus on hiring world-class engineers.
  • Provide leadership, training, and guidance related to job creation, interviewing best practices, offer negotiations, and recruiting functions.
  • Define best-in-class hiring processes, from sourcing to closing top technical talent.
  • Partner with executives and hiring managers to prioritize hiring needs and workforce planning.
  • Implement data-driven recruiting metrics to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.

People Operations & Talent Development:

  • Design and implement scalable HR processes that support Step's rapid growth.
  • Own the employee experience, from onboarding to retention, ensuring high engagement and performance.
  • Develop and implement strategic frameworks for compensation, benefits, and performance management to drive organizational effectiveness.
  • Partner with leadership to build employee connectedness and cultivate a strong, inclusive culture aligned with Step's values.
  • Implement and manage HR systems, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency.

What You Bring

  • Deep technical recruiting hands-on expertise, with a proven track record of hiring high-caliber engineers in a fast-paced environment.
  • 6+ years of experience in People Operations, HR, or Recruiting, with leadership experience in a high-growth startup or fintech.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional process-building and execution skills and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Capable of managing immediate priorities while anticipating future needs.
  • Strong stakeholder management and ability to partner with executives.
  • Passion for building a high-performance, people-first culture.
