Director of Information Technology

Scope:
Determines and directs the planning, development and implementation phases of the current and long-term networking, software and hardware needs. Manages information technology programs, supervises assigned professional staff and to varying degrees manages daily operations including coordination of related technical resources. Oversees the development and refinement of information systems policies to increase the efficiency of Agency operations.
Essential Functions
- Align IT goals with the organizations mission and strategic objectives.
- Develop and implement an IT roadmap to support long-term growth.
- Advise the leadership team on technology investments and trends.
- Oversee network, hardware, and software systems to ensure reliability.
- Implement cybersecurity policies to protect sensitive donor, volunteer, and beneficiary data.
- Ensure compliance with data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA if applicable).
- Identify and integrate emerging technologies to improve efficiency.
- Lead cloud migration efforts for better accessibility and cost-effectiveness.
- Assist in the adoption of AI, automation, and data analytics tools.
- Ensure staff have proper IT training and resources.
- Manage the IT Manual, including updates, implementation and training.
- Oversee helpdesk and technical support to resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure data integrity and proper backup systems to prevent loss.
- Manage the IT budget to balance cost and efficiency.
- Oversee contracts with software providers, cloud services, and IT vendors.
- Seek cost-effective solutions, including non-profit tech discounts (e.g., Google for Nonprofits, Microsoft Philanthropies).
- Ensure IT operations comply with non-profit regulations and grant requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments to prevent data breaches and system failures.
- Direct the development and execution of an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Collaborate with executive leadership, program managers, and external partners to align IT with organizational needs.
- Communicate IT strategies and updates effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
- Direct daily operations of department staff, analyzing workflow, establishing priorities, developing standards, and setting deadlines.
- Hire and train technical staff assigning tasks based on priority, staff skills and availability.
- Monitor and audit system performance to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing system and provides troubleshooting and maintenance as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in a professional office environment with a usually quiet noise level. This is largely a sedentary role and the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, frequently use hands and to talk or hear.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems OR a minimum of six to eight years of experience in a related field OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
- Three to four years related experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation and user support and/or training.
Minimum Competencies:
- Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware/software systems.
- Expertise in data governance.
- Working knowledge of intermediate internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
- Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).
- Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
Licensing and Other Requirements:
- Valid identification and reliable transportation.
- Although the Covid-19 vaccination is no longer mandated, it is encouraged. Wayne Metro will always prioritize the safety of our staff and clients.
Travel Requirements:
- Ability to travel to various sites.
Work Hours: Work to be scheduled Monday through Friday with specific hours to be determined by program needs.
