JOB SUMMARY:
The focus of the Fiber Laser Development Technician is to assist in the development and fabrication of high-power fiber lasers for medical, industrial and other specific applications.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The focus of the Fiber Laser Development Technician is to assist in the development and fabrication of high-power fiber lasers for medical, industrial and other specific applications.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the engineering team to develop high-power fiber lasers for both medical and industrial applications.
- Independently construct various types of fiber lasers as directed by engineering leaders, including tasks such as electronics and wiring assembly, and optical fiber laser cavity assembly.
- Conduct tests and measurements on fiber lasers and fiber laser systems.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of fiber handling and processes, including stripping, cleaving, splicing and recoating fibers.
- Design and perform thorough tests and measurements on optical components and lasers to ensure they meet design specifications.
- Document the development process, collect and analyze data, and present findings to the team.
- Support ongoing process development and prototype manufacturing.
- Provide training and procedures to facilitate the transfer of newly developed products to manufacturing.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including those related to lasers, electricity, and chemical safety.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Excellent computer skills and computer literacy.
- Skills in utilizing drawings, mathematics, handbook formulas, and various precision measuring instruments.
- Capable of handling complex assignments that require significant judgement and initiative to resolve problems and make recommendations.
- Exceptional manual dexterity.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Highly motivated with good computer literacy and communication skills.
- Ensures compliance with laser safety standards and regulations.
- Detail-oriented in all aspects of the job activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or alternatively, 6+ years of hands-on experience in laser systems, optics or photonics may be considered in place of a formal degree.
- A minimum of 2 years’ work experience in fiber optics, with an emphasis on lasers, is required.
- Skills in electronics, optical fiber and cables, test and medical laser applications are considered an asset.
- Ability to use fingers and hands to manipulate small parts.
- Excellent vision is required to perform job.
- Required to work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
