Network Engineer

We are looking for a detail-oriented network engineer. This role may be worked on-site in our Scranton, PA office, hybrid, or remote. A Network Engineer is a unique and exciting role responsible for designing, building, and maintaining our fiber optic network infrastructure. We’re interested in engineers with experience having designed, operated, and implemented networks of very large scale. You will be the lead architect for our core transport infrastructure and will also assist in implementing our cutting edge access network design. You will be responsible for architecting, building, and maintaining all technical aspects of our network and hardware design, configurations, and associated work including router, switch, OLT, and ONU hardware configurations and advanced configurations for small business and enterprise customer premise equipment.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Research and write requirements to test hardware and software to ensure interoperability, stability, and proper functionality of the network.
• Provides escalation support for troubleshooting and resolution of all network data and security issues as required by other infrastructure support teams
• Design and integrate new backbone network hardware for new and existing markets.
• Interacts and drives vendor requirements, resolution of bug fixes, code upgrades, and vendor development as necessary
• Be the subject matter expert and may act as a technical project lead or provide leadership for lower level employees and engineers
• Handle escalated trouble calls/tickets
• Provide detailed equipment installation specifications and drawings to network technicians
• Ensure all site records are updated and accurate
• Ensure all network procedures and policies are followed
• Coordinate network parts inventory
• Design and provision network services for customers
• Perform maintenance on network equipment when needed
• Self-motivated with problem solving capabilities, sense of urgency and accountability
• Perform other duties as assigned
  
  

Education And Qualifications

• 5+ years of major internet routing protocols experience
• 5+ years experience in a senior network engineer position or 2+ years experience in a lead network engineer position
• Expert level experience on BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, OSPF, and major internet routing protocols.
• Extensive experience with network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols.
• Experience with various equipment assets and circuit inventory systems required
• Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documents such as vendor deployment guidelines, white papers, and configuration manuals
• In-depth knowledge of and experience with major router platforms; the following hardware vendors are preferred: Nokia, Arista, Juniper
• 3+ years of Asterisk experience preferred
• 3+ years of voice transport and routing
• Knowledge and understanding of Stir/shaken
• Knowledge of VOIP monitoring software
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex voice issues
• Ability to work independently and apply sound judgment and reasoning skills to a variety of situations
• Ability to multi-task and collaborate effectively with other personnel to meet deadlines
• Strong verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills
• Ability to work within critical deadlines
• Ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities and schedules
