BWC Underwriting Consultant

BWC’s core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across BWC departments. Most positions perform work on-site at one of BWC’s seven offices across the state.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Candidate will supervise the Office Professional 2 position in the Self-Insured Department so the candidate should have prior supervisor experience.
- Candidate will be responsible for overseeing the self-insured assessment process. Candidate must have a strong understanding of how assessments are calculated, know the ORC and OAC rules that apply to the assessment process, ability to test by working with the IT division to ensure assessments are calculated correctly.
- Candidate must have a strong understanding of the Sysco reimbursement program, how the opt out process works, how much it is to participate, and know all eligibility requirements to receive reimbursement from the fund.
- Candidate must have a strong understanding of the construction wrap-up program including the application process, difference between an OCIP and CCIP wrap-up, and eligibility criteria for a wrap-up program.
- Candidate will be responsible for all new self-insured applications so the candidate must have a strong understanding of the qualifications for an employer to be eligible for self-insurance including the ORC and OAC codes that apply.
To Qualify, You Must Clearly Demonstrate:
Required Experience and/or Education:
- Completion of undergraduate core program in business administration, insurance & risk management, accounting or related field of study; 4 yrs. exp. in assigned program area with Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation or with private insurance carrier (e.g., underwriting, premium audit, risk management & analysis).
- Or 4 yrs. exp. as Workers’ Compensation External Auditor, 66431, or Workers’ Compensation Underwriter, 66791 or Employer Services Specialist, 66432 or any combination of these positions totaling 4 yrs. exp.
- Or 4 yrs. exp. in research & analysis of risk-related information/reports &/or developing, coordinating, evaluating & monitoring risk-related programs.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Salary Information: Hourly wage is expected to be paid at step 1 of the pay range associated with the position for candidates who are new employees of the state. Current employees of the state will be placed in the appropriate step based on any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code. There may also be possible cost of living adjustments (COLA) and longevity supplements begin after five (5) years of state service.
