Primary Work Location: Hybrid, supporting all our physical clinical supportive housing sites

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medi-Cal Enrollment Specialist to support our healthcare team in assisting residents with Medi-Cal eligibility, enrollment, and benefits coordination. This role involves working closely with residents, care coordinators, and county agencies to ensure timely and accurate Medi-Cal enrollment and coverage verification. The position is hybrid, requiring three days of on-site work per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Medi-Cal enrollment inquiries and application tracking
  • Achieve maximum reimbursement for services provided
  • Assist residents in completing Medi-Cal applications, renewals, and eligibility verifications
  • Verify Medi-Cal and managed care plan status through online portals such as BenefitsCal, Medi-Cal Provider Portal, and Alameda Alliance Provider Portal
  • Coordinate with county Medi-Cal offices to resolve application or coverage issues.
  • Maintain accurate records and update internal tracking systems
  • Educate residents about Medi-Cal benefits and managed care plans
  • Work closely with care coordinators, enrollment specialists, and billing specialists to ensure seamless coverage transitions
  • Stay up to date on Medi-Cal policy changes and communicate relevant updates to the team
  • Provide general administrative support related to Medi-Cal applications, including follow-ups and documentation submission
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Medi-Cal enrollment experience: Minimum 1 year experience
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Experience with online portals such as BenefitsCal, Medi-Cal Provider Portal, and Alameda Alliance Provider Portal
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and maintain organized records
  • Proficiency using Microsoft office: Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR)
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of Medi-Cal eligibility requirements, application processes, and managed care plans
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong critical thinking abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with the homeless population
  • Familiarity with Alameda County Medi-Cal processes and resources

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Medi-Cal enrollment experience: 2 years preferred
  • Experience working in a medical respite or social services setting
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, or another commonly spoken language in the community
  • Knowledgeable in Harm reduction, De-escalation, Motivational interviewing, and Trauma informed care

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent walking, standing, and moving between different areas to assist residents and coordinate with staff
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs., such as carrying files, supplies, or assisting with workstation setup
  • May require bending, reaching, and kneeling to retrieve or organize documents and materials
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or handling paperwork
  • On-site work will require interacting with residents in a healthcare or community setting, which may involve exposure to varying environmental conditions

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid schedule: 3 days on-site, 2 days remote
  • On-site work required at various Cardea Health sites in the Bay Area
  • Remote work requires reliable internet and access to necessary systems
