INTERIOR DESIGNER

At Browning Day, our portfolio spans a broad range of project types within civic, cultural, healthcare, higher education, faith-based, hospitality, mixed-use, preservation and reuse, sports and wellness, and the workplace. Our success is based on the client's vision coming to life and includes a team of Architects, Interior Designers, Landscape Architects, and support staff who play a part in solving complex design problems. We are seeking a mid to entry level Designer who will add their skills and creativity to our diverse projects.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

  • Interpret, organize, and execute the conceptual design of a project.
  • Use technical knowledge and creativity to meet project requirements and objectives.
  • Maintain positive client relationships throughout the project.
  • Foster commitment to external and internal client service.
  • Complete programming efforts, including information gathering and analysis.
  • Develop innovative design concepts that are practical, aesthetically pleasing, safe, and code-compliant to meet the project's scope, including client goals and project budget.
  • Coordinate color and material palettes appropriate for a variety of project types.
  • Tasks related to the project's design, documentation, specifications, and construction administration (including the selection and specification of furniture).
  • Support Project Managers with contract implementation, project budgeting, scheduling, planning, and construction administration.
  • Prepare sketches or other visual aids to demonstrate preliminary designs to the client.
  • Use design applications to prepare and illustrate plans.
  • Develop knowledge of trends, materials, techniques, and other developments in interior design.
  • Ensure documents align with Browning Day’s document standards.
  • Responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors as needed.
  • Produce written documentation related to project deliverables, meeting documentation, transmittals, and specifications, as required by the project.
  • Complete design assignments that may require developing new or improved design techniques and resources.
  • Share knowledge and support the professional growth of other Designers.
  • Incorporates and considers sustainable design solutions into all projects.
  • Provide support to architectural staff
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to apply a sense of style to create aesthetically pleasing and proportionate work.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and provide high-quality service to clients.
  • Foster mutual trust and confidence by developing solid relationships (internal and external).
  • Ability to solve problems, specifically interpreting multiple stakeholders' input.
  • Aptitude to work in a team environment as an individual contributor.
  • Time management skills, including balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and managing time without deadline-driven projects.
  • Excellent communicator: verbal, written, presenting, training, and public speaking.
  • Knowledge of building regulations and safety.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production.
  • Ability to graphically communicate design concepts as required by a variety of projects.
    • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
    • Revit
    • Knowledge of 3D Modeling software (ex: 3D Studio Max, SketchUp, Viz)
    • Preferred knowledge of Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Walking construction sites while talking to clients, staff, or construction managers and carrying up to 15 lbs. (Our projects range from small, single-story 2,500 square-foot buildings to 20+ multi-story 200,000+ square feet high-rise towers).
    • Inspecting the details of the construction site by taking photos while bending, reaching, and walking up and down stairs.
    • Sitting and doing desk-related tasks for long periods.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or related field required
  • Preferred professional Interior Designer that passed the NCIDQ exam (or will complete within an agreed-upon timeline).
  • Preferred professional experience: 0-6+ years as a Designer.
  • Satisfactory completion of background screening.
