General Summary:

The CR&D Program Management team has an immediate opening for a Staff Level Program Manager to work in partnership with technical leadership to manage large scale research projects in our Artificial Intelligence research organization. The ideal candidate has a large breadth of technical experience and leadership skills who enjoys being a part of an entrepreneurial team of researchers whose work will impact numerous technologies such as Mobile, Automotive, Internet of Things, Wearables, Computing and XR/AR to name just a few. The ideal candidate would be able to leverage their engineering background to proactively manage across multiple programs in the AI space from bleeding-edge intellectual property conception to technology transfer to various commercial teams. In CR&D, the focus on research includes opportunities for engaging with academia through funding and collaboration of relevant research at various universities across the globe. The position requires strong verbal and written communications skills with an ability to distill information from various sources into concise directives and actionable plans. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 8+ years of Program Management or related work experience.

Duties include the following:

  • Plan and execute large strategic initiatives for Qualcomm’s center of excellence for AI research
  • Collaborate with technical leadership to translate research goals into organizational strategy and successful programs.
  • Drive decisions necessary for technology delivery by partnering with engineering, legal and operational leadership while managing priorities based on CR&D objectives and strategy
  • Work closely with commercial PMOs and technology core teams to ensure successful and timely transfer of technologies and findings.
  • Oversee CR&D engagements with academia and universities including coordination of team activities at academic conferences such as demo development and workshop hosting
  • Roll-up reports for senior management on key research milestones and staffing status.
  • Provide disciplined management of information and communication of risks and mitigations to internal and external key stakeholders
  • Support inter-organization communication by organizing and participating in program and technical reviews
  • Coordinate and assure compliance to IP protection policies and procedures.
  • As part of CR&D Program Management leadership team develop and ensure adoption of best practices across all AI research programs. Drive process improvement across various corporate systems that support or impact CR&D
  • Manage Resources, Headcount, and Budget for various CR&D departments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Passion about AI technology and its potential impact on the world
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in areas of communication, mobile or machine learning technologies (e.g., embedded SW, video processing, GPU, camera, computer vision, machine learning, or data science experience).
  • 3+ years of direct experience / background in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Neural Network technology.
  • 10+ years Engineering Lead/ Program Management experience or related work experience.
  • 3+ years working with operating budgets, resources, and/or project financials.
  • Self-starter. Ability to manage, influence, and set the direction of multi-faceted, multi-disciplined teams and programs independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with funded research at universities or research organizations
  • Ability to articulate vision and influence decision-making and outcomes both within internal and with external teams through exceptional communication skills.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) - Project Management Institute (PMI)

Preferred Skills:

  • Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint, Project, Excel, Sharepoint.
  • Atlassian Confluence, Jira, Tableau Reports/Dashboards
  • Budget preparations, Presentations for executive level audiences.

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years of engineering experience in areas of communication, mobile or machine learning technologies (e.g., embedded SW, video processing, GPU, camera, computer vision, machine learning, or data science experience).
  • 5+ years Engineering Lead/ Program Management experience or related work experience.
  • 5+ years working with operating budgets, resources, and/or project financials.

Skills:

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits: $188,000.00 - $282,000.00. The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible to our annual bonus).
